Switched to Synthetic Oil...Now Better MPG's!

Well the BS I am talking about is you saying that Toyota payed out $ Billions in some lawsuit over sludge.

I dont believe that standard oil causes sludge. Not changing standard oil might lead to sludge, pinging or burned oil seals, but the implication that using standard causes sludge... well I disagree.

Toyotas and Lexus are well known for lasting 200,000 miles because they are well engineered vehicles. It has nothing to do with SYN vs oil. And I believe that when the engines do experience failures after 200,000 it is more often related to top end problems like a head gasket where oil type was not a major contributing factor and there are plenty of 300,000 mi trucks that still use standard.

Okie Dokie, kinda thought it was common knowledge that Toyota paid out quite a bit for that sludge fiasco, but to each his own.
Many of the sludged up engines were only a few years old with less than 50K on them, some way less than that.
Reason being was petroleum oil in an engine where the top end got too hot for petroleum oil to handle that is why the engines sludged.
I am sure some of the worst ones were of course people that let their oil go for like 8000+ miles of course but even many that had their oil changed at the dealership on a regular decent intervals were affected so it was definitely the petroleum oil.
If they came from the factory with synthetic and changed inn under 10,000 miles never would have happened.

now naturally nobody is going to try to specially blame petroleum oil manufacturers because then they would subject themselves to more lawsuits, but logically it stands to reason that petroleum oil will sludge far quicker than synthetic, but no matter what the actual "fault" was with Toyota design team that designed an engine that worked beautifully and did what they wanted it to do but simply got too damn hot on the top end for petroleum oil to handle. They walked a thin line and fell off in this case.

Now if they had said the car requires synthetic oil then they would have been off the hook, but they supposedly designed it for petroleum oil.

Now I don't think our particular engine in the 4runner is AS affected as say the one in my wifes Lexus especially if you just change your oil at a decent interval, I think our engines do not get near as hot on the top end.
