So I upgraded the factory headlight and foglight bulbs to silverstars and have got to say that they are incredible compared to the OEM bulbs. I have seen HID and these are as close to HID's as you can get without actually buying HID's. I also did a DIY on my turn signals and took out the orange in them so now I have to orange on the front of my truck...so if you were wondering about the silverstars...they are awesome, extremely bright and white. I will post pics when I get a chance...

I have installed silverstar headlights as well. They work great, especially on high beam. Much better than the OEM lights. They also look great, the bright white color.

I installed them in my headlights and fogs as well. They are really good lights, not a ton diiferent from OEM but the brighter white looks better.
 
do those silerstars "burn hotter" than OEM bulbs? since the DRL's use the headlights, any chance of it melting the harness? anyone have experience with how long silverstars last?
 
I think they might burn just a little bit hotter becasue they were about 5Watts more, but I haven't noticed any problems.
 
not to piss on your parade but I think the OEM lights are pretty good. I have had much worse and do plenty of night driving. I don't think its worth spending the $20 a bulb to replace something that is working real good. Maybe I will do it when the OEM ones burn out. Sylvania just says that they are WHITER.
 
I agree with the GAS man. The OEM bulbs are tremendous. I have had MANY vehicles with MUCH MUCH MUCH worse lighting than these ones.... Just an observation... But when they DO go out I will probably spend the extra cash to get the $20 ones!
 
Yep, the OEM are really great lights. I guess I was just wanting something a little different from the norm. I know the $20 a bulb was a little more than usual, but to each his own. No they are not that much different in brightness, but they have a much cleaner white light.:cool:
 
my $.02

my 99 had some really yellowish oem lights and after putting in the silverstars, they were actually white and were much brighter...maybe they improved the OEM bulbs on the newer models.
 
I installed the silverstars last week, and I have found they were much brighter than OEM Halogens on my 91. The only downside is I have gotten the finger twice because of them, and I get people flashing their high beams at me because they are so bright. :50cal:

Work amazing for the trail, not so well for the city :)

You may want to check to make sure they are aligned properly -- if they are too high, that could explain why other folks flash their lights at you.
 
Does anyone have a side to side pic of a 03 or 04 Runner with the Sylvania lights installed they could post?

These lamps are very nice. IMHO they are not too blue and, at night, very superior to the stock lamps. For me, I first bought just the low beams and liked them so much that I went out yesterday and bought four more for the fogs and highs. I definitely recommend these bulbs.

The DRL in the 03 and 04's use the parking lamps as the DRL's. So the headlights are not effected at all.


BUT, I do keep my headlights on all the time since then shut off automatically.... Hummmm
