Synthetic oil change/other fluids

Ok I know it's beating a dead horse for the 100th time....but I'm confused. I've read the searches and stickys but still cant decide what to do.

My 06 4R has 9400 k on it. I will take it in @ 10 k for oil,lube filter @ the dealer & tire rotate.

Should I switch to synthetic ? does Toyota even have it ? If so do I just change engine oil for now or do I have all fluids changed to syn. ? like diff's , t-case , ect..... or wait till 15k for that stuff . I do alot of city stop & go driving 25-27k per year and a few road trips to .

or should I stay with convential oil ?

I hate to bring this up again, but all the info on the search and the sticky just was a little overwhelming to me. never used Syn. oil and never owned a yota either so trying to figure out what to do.

If you change the diffs and transfer case to premium synthetics you can let it go for the next 100K miles.

Speaking about Toyota oils, I went to the Toyota dealer close to my place last night to get all the oils changed over to Amsoil.

While I was walking around their grounds I came across their scrap metal bin and inside were empty drums of 75W90(lots of them) and they came from Esso(Exon brand in the states) not Toyota. So does Toyota even have their own branded 75W90?

So I guess everyone who goes to this dealer isn't getting a Toyota product for their diffs or transfer cases.

Toyota will have their own brand of oil made and packaged by texaco(or whoever). But the service station will have a local supplier that will have an aproved oil by Toyota!

Do you tow alot? if so, i would switch to synthetics like amsoil for your front and rear diffs.
either way, switching wont hurt at all, at least you want the best for your truck and for you.

oil change

After reading all the posts on oil changes and synthetic I changed my oil over to Mobil 1 at 3,500 miles on my 06 Sport V-8. I intended to change before 5,000 on the first change and hereafter will change every 5,000 mi. I noticed at the dealership parts dept. they sell a Toyota synthetic for the differentials. I guess I don't see a reason to change anything else to synthetic at this time. Perhaps some of you can suggest why you think it is important to change differential and transmission to synthetic. (is the 06 4F a sealed transmission?) I don't tow a lot but do pull several mtn. passes at 10,000 to 12,000 ft. on I-70. Sometimes I tow an aluminum trailer with one ATV on it (total of 1,500 lbs.)

This is a great vehicle with the V-8 especially at altitude. I can only imagine the power of this engine at sea level.

Personally I have decided to extend the fluid change intervals for this 'ownership experience'. Therefore, I have decided to go synthetic. I chose mobile 1 for the engine oil, and castrol for the 3 diffs.

I think I have partially succum to marketing. I doubt there is anything wrong with dino bones, but why not give synthetics a try?

Well the 75W90 I saw was Esso and the drums said Esso on the sides not Toyota, so I assume it came from Esso. Considering I worked at an oil refinery for a good part of my career I would say the oil came from Esso.

I sure hope I don't have too much to report on the Amsoil products, because if I do it would only be bad news. But so far I find them okay, not sure how else to rate them at this time. Just did a trip out to the west coast Islands and back and had no problems, got about 10.2L/100KMs average, at an average speed of about 110kms/hr. Hopefully the Amsoil hepled make it better than normal.

Is "Amsoil" a good product in general ??? I alway's thought they were kind of a gimmick company until the last year when I've read so much about them in looking for auto product lines to carry for a bus. opp.

Also I have my oil changed at the dealer , I can do it my self but it mainly a time thing and I like that the dealer has everything on record there.

I can only go by what other people have said about Amsoil products and there sure seems to be alot of people who use and like their products. Not to mention they'll been perfecting it longer than anyone.

You can still get your dealer to change your oil, you just supply the oil. It cost me $22cdn to have them change it and put in a Toyota filter, not bad considering it cost about twice that to go to a quick change oil shop.
