"System cannot detect the voice"

Hi All,

I'm having an issue with my system. I recently installed an e7008 with overhead console and right hand steering controls to my 07. e7008 was in perfect fully working condition when purchased from original owner.

When I press the button to talk, and I enter a command, it says "system cannot detect the voice, please rephrase your command." Subsequently, Bluetooth does connect to my iPhone 5, and I can hear all voice fine from the speakers, but when talking to others, there's just static. Mic is hooked up properly (brand new in fact). Navigation voice output is fine. I checked all settings in the diagnostic menu and everything looks fine. The input volume is 5 of 7 green bars, the max volume in and out is 5 (whatever that means - it's the highest it can be), and all systems show that it's properly connected.

I've checked, rechecked, and triple checked everything. The amp has wires going from R10 of the headunit to S22 of the amp. All connections to headunit and amp are secure with no loose wires. I've looked and looked and looked for a problem til I'm blue in the face, but so frustrated that my efforts have led to futility. I've taken my dash apart more times that I can count, and still nothing. Even googled on other Toyota forums and I cannot seem to find a thread anywhere about it.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem before or know how to fix it?

still stumped on this? I wouldn't worry about the wires going to the amp, they have nothing to do with mic. With that in mind, if you can hear the voice navigation without issue (static), then you can eliminate the amp as a possible culprit. Your wires are shielded, right?

I would suspect you have a bad mic. If you played with the wiring order to no avail (I think you did mention this in another post), then you can discount the wires as well. That leaves the HU, but I sincerely doubt it.

i had access to multiple oem mics and none of them worked so i can safely rule out the mic issue. i purchased the e7008 unit from the original owner who said it worked perfectly in his 06 limited. thus, navigation can be ruled out. leaving only wiring...

gonna buy some shielded wire and run it from pins 17, 19 and 20 on the r26 connector and plug that into the factory mic. question: do you know where these 3 pins correspond to in the factory mic?

I don't have the pin-outs to the factory mic, but I'm sure a schematic is out there. If I find one, I'll post.

i read something on a tundra or taco forum (can't remember which) where someone made their own mic. they wired it up very much like we do with 4runners, but they tapped into the spd sensor wire and connected it to the amp. also saw this done directly to a harness for the nav in a 4runner. this was independent of wiring up parking brake/reverse/spd sensors into the other plug in the back of the nav.

how would this help with voice/mic stuff?

i ordered some new 3 conductor shield wire to rewire the r26 connector to the overhead console. still looking for the pinouts for the console though, since the wires are pink, blue and black i believe.

the blue connector in the overhead console does not terminate at my kickpanel as seen in a previous post; thus, my goal of using the factory wiring is out. not sure where it terminates then since i have an 07 and i know it was standard in that model year.

I don't have pinouts of the overhead console of our Runners, but I can dig around. I have to dig b/c I plan on doing the GX470 overhead console mod. I'll report back..............

so i finally got the bluetooth voice to work! it looks like the kit i received was wired incorrectly and thus, i redid the wiring.

the connector (that attaches to the mic in the console) already contained three wires with their pins in firmly, so i didn't remove them. i looked at some guides on here to see what the pins on the r26 connector contained, and finally connected everything.

if looking from the back:

console----------r26 connector
pin 1-------------pin 17 (MACC power)
pin 3-------------pin 19 (MIC+)
pin 5-------------pin 20 (MIC-)

i should've guessed that it would go in order! oh well...happy it finally works. hope this helps you out !
