I don't know about you guys, but me being a noob, I could spend hours on here looking around this forum. :ranger:
Lots nice 4R's to see. Great reading all of the write ups too. :snacker: And the troubleshooting...wow people here know their thing! :thumb:
It's inspiring to see fellow members transforming of the 4R's in here.

Lets just say my 3.7 GPA slipped a little. For some reason looking at 4Runners was more fun that writing papers and dealing with APA formatting. :tsk:

Everything I've done on my truck since October (except oil changes) I've learned here, or found the link here.

Changed diff fluid
Greased drive shaft
Changed pcv valve
Plugs and wires
Gauge cluster led swap (in progress)
Fuel filter
Cleaned maf and throttle body
A/f sensor
Checked sunroof motor
 
I hooked too!! Ive done a lot of things I would have NEVER done without the help of fellow members. Just about every time I'm on the computer my husband says "Are you on that 4runner forum again" haha even though he should be on here too since he also has a runner!!

Now after doing a lot of cosmetic mods I'm on to doing things like changing my own oil and greasing the u joints and cleaning out my cv boot(soon).

You guys don't even know how good it feels to go in a auto store and buy what I need without help and when I checkout the person is surprised at what I am doing.

So thanks to whoever created this forum and Desertfox for giving me the time of day last year and the members that have answered my questions along the way!!

Just a tad addicting :)
 
I dunno, I've been on here a few years... The words are confusing for me but I visit occasionally for the pretty colors and visual stimulation.

I don't know, it seems like there are more how do I lift and what 4runner should I buy questions more than anything and its just cluttering up a lot of the good info. Plus people asking the same questions that have been answered to death is getting quite old. Its like none of these people have ever done anything to a car, and if you haven't why would you come to a website with a bunch of strangers first instead of asking maybe a real mechanic or something. What did people do before the internet...ill never know.

We were all new at some point. There's still a lot that I learn on a daily basis. And I think new people are finding the site because they are actually searching for info and the search sites are directing them here. And it wouldn't be very active without new people posting. Just my 2 cents...
 
I work off of a queue at work...so when there's nothing to do, it helps make a 10hr day go by faster. What it hurts for me is my checking acct. Thanks to this forum i've bought so many "weird" tools. I'm the only person in my friend group who owns a pickle fork...

Yea but knew to what, the internet, life, cars in general. All I have to say is, im surprised that these people aren't asking for a write up on how to fill their cars up with gas. They need a writeup for everything else. Most of this stuff is just common sense. Im all for an active forum, but not active stupidity. But this is America, where almost everyone needs their hands held for everything.

It's the truth!! I spend more time than I want on this forum sometimes. There is soooo much to see and learn! Especially that my sister has a 4th gen now, makes 2 in the family !!

There's always cool stuff to see across the forum, even on the general and off topic discussions.

I barely knew How to change my battery before this forum and I am now learning more and more. The search doesn't always work and get you the information you need. My take is, if you don't want to read whats being posted, move along. NO offense :)

I love this site too! However, one problem I have with it is that it tends to make me spend more money on things I never even knew I needed until I saw someone else have it...

Well maybe some of us (like myself) are scared of working on our own trucks because it's the only truck we have so we don't want to screw it up and be out valuable transportation. At the same time, though, I can't afford to pay a mechanic thousands of dollars in labor alone to fix something that I could fix with help of a few friends and a weekend of wrenching. Plus, you learn things in the process of fixing other things.
I agree with you that it's worth doing some research before you ask questions that you know have been answered a thousand times, but where do you think most people get directed to when they're doing that research? My guess? Here.

And (if we're not talking pattern failures here) because every vehicle's problem (and the symptoms that lead to the discovery and remedy of that problem) could be SLIGHTLY different, some of us just may not find exactly what we're looking for just using prayer and google. We're not all experts at diagnosis, but we can't all afford to throw parts at the problem until it's fixed.

Additionally, maybe some of us to like to know how things work. A little curiosity never hurt anyone.

I will say that essentially you're right; all these duplicate threads can get annoying. Have the mods/admin ever considered deleting some of the duplicate threads just to clean things up a little? I don't see anything WRONG with it, so long as those threads don't contribute anything new to forum/are useful in any way besides telling people to use the search function.
