FYI I didn't mean anything bad about 2nd gens with my opening statement, they just seem to be much less represented here on the forum.

Last time I checked there were only a few 2nd gen build on the master build thread.

im gonna second 92sr5 he has a good build, and put a lot of blood sweat and tears into that truck, plus he also helps out not only on the forum, but other people in his local area, being in search and rescue... his truck gets used and is built around its uses.

I'll second footofgods rig. Very creative build that he's been doing and I like where it's going. Even my wife liked the chop top and roll cage and that's saying something

Sorry for my ignorance, but why is the 2nd gen runner not up to par with the rest? What are the common issues that come along with the 2nd?

It's like saying you are a Mustang Cobra owner. Then roll up to the car show in this Pony Car. It's a Mustang but WTF was Ford thinking. Get it now.

My roommate just bought a new Shelby GT. it's his second one, and 4th new car in 6 yrs. his excuse is he's spending the kids inheritance. Nice car but I don't want a $1500 month car payment!

It still doesn't make a whole lot of sense why people make such fun of it--the only thing "wrong" with it is the wimpy engine that everyone loves to joke about (including me), and it was brought to us by those snooty 1st Gen guys (LOL) who promptly disavowed ever seeing it before! It uses an IFS just like the one before and after it (that's right folks--both the engine AND front suspension came out of the 1st Gen, whose owners seem to only remember their solid front axle and 22RE without the bizarre exhaust/head gasket issue). It's not like the whole package stinks. And yes, I will ALWAYS consider it the best looking 4Runner....especially given the direction they've been going lately. So there... :argue:

I wasn't meaning you in particular, Ol'Blue; just what the general sentiment seems to be. For the record, the way I read it regarding the head gasket issue was that Toyota originally planned to use an asbestos gasket (instead of just making a better exhaust first--go figure), but this was back when asbestos suddenly became enemy #1 and was banned everywhere. The design was already locked in, so Toyota had to go with another option, which turned out to not be up to the task. The gaskets almost universally fail in the same spot, where that absurd exhaust crossover passes near the head, therefore cooking the gasket into oblivion.

I don't normally publish who I vote for, but this time around I'm going to raise the battle cry for FootofGod's rig to get some well-deserved recognition--I've been following his rig since it was a simple red stocker not too terribly long ago, and he has done a lot of solid mods that have completely changed the character of that rig. I'd like to see him get his month in the winner's box!

ah sweet it's already that time again? Thanks for the nom FOG. Guess I'll have to put this up, haven't had the chance to try out my increased center of gravity since I'm busy with work and moving, but managed to wash it after probably two months last week.

Thanks Bob. It's certainly been a labor of love. Still have to get the body work done, new gears and get the axle installed (at least I have one now). That being said, I will put the Minnow up against any rock crawler on the mountain at this point. I promise that someday it will look as good as it crawls.

I'll take it up in the mountains and get a good pic this weekend.
