Tablet Mounting Options

Currently looking at mounting a tablet in my 2013 TE. Plan to use it for additional navigation for off-road or where the onboard nav doesn't show the roads or trails. Mount has to be no-hole, air bag friendly, and easy to use/see the tablet for either myself or my passenger/"navi-guesser". My cup holders are used or blocked by the ham radio accessories, I don't want anything up high on the dash, or blocking the nav/audio screen, so I was thinking of this style: Console Mounts, Adjustable Vehicle Floor Console Mounts*-*ProClip USA

Was wondering if anyone has tried this kind or has seen it in use?

Having a no drill requirement might limit your availability. [MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION] and myself have used a ram mount and not the universal one. I had an idea and then saw his and he lead me in the right direction and it fits all your needs but the no drill, in the photo it looks like it is in the passengers way but it is vertical with the side console and in no way does the passenger touch the arm of the mount... Let us know what you find though

I haven't ruled out the arm mount that will bolt onto the seat bolt. That is still a viable option for me, glad you included that, and also the fact that it doesn't interfere with the pax legs etc. I prefer that style of mount. Ram has a selection of mounts that will go under the seat bolt, it's one long goose neck vice the adjustable arms system like what was pictured. Of the two, I can see positives in both the flatter console mount, and the more upright arm.

I agree and I had planned on going the universal long goose neck route but other users had remarked that it shaked to much and over time would loose the strength to hold the Ipad up right.

I'll +1 that. I have the mount that goes to the passenger seat bolt and it shakes terribly with the long arm. I added a quickfist bolted to the center console trim to help stabilize it, which helps, but not enough.

I've got the same mount but I hardly ever look at it while I'm moving, so I don't really notice the shake that much. I do end up having to tighten the bolt at the base of the arm about once every 6 months or so.
 
I have the RamMount X-grip with the seat bolt arm & I really like it.

I have one on driver side for my phone & one on the passenger side for the ipad mini. Its visible when I need it & it doesn't interfere with the passenger's legs.

It did take some maneuvering to reduce the vibration, but it can be done. Before i bolted the arm down, I "over-bent" the arm so that most of it is pressing against the console once tightened up.

ETA: I also cut about 4 inches off the metal rod to achieve the height I wanted. Make your bends at sharp angles rather than curves. Both of these tips reduced vibration greatly.

Which Ram mount is that? The flat surface mount? The pic is too dark for me to see the bottom of the mount.
 
Here's some pictures of what I've done. Essentially I've hard mounted a 1" ball with diamond base, that I use to hold both my HT and my tablet. When not in use it's small and unobtrusive and you don't even know it's there.
All RAM Mount parts, and if you're interested, the part numbers for the Tablet assembly are at the bottom of the post after the pictures:







RAM-B-101U-C: Double socket arm with 1" B size(1" socket), 5.2" socket to socket length and two round AMPS pattern bases.
RAM-HOL-TAB-SMU: RAM Tab-Tite Kit for 7" tablets.
RAM-HOL-ROTO1U: RAM Roto-View adapter.
RAM-B-238U: RAM 2.43" x 1.31" Diamond Ball Base with 1" Ball and AMPS compatible hole spacing.
 
Depending on the size & weight of the tablet, the ProClip will bounce when you go on rougher roads.

The Ram-Mount is an awesome product (have several in my truck for various things) make sure you get the correct arm length or you will get some bounce action as well.

I had the same quest as you did and ended up going a different route...

I did use a ram mount in my fj previously that mounted to the seat base. It did work well yet had issues being too wobbly for my tastes. Personally not a method as I would not care to repeat with the bendable metal type rods.

I would make sure it is rick solid mounting, with input, driving road, and rough terrain. Even a little wobble is too much. Other considerations power in actual mount, acc light in mount, securability from theft. I am interested to see what you actually find out. I just though I would share my experiences.

I use this console mount for a cell phone and am very happy with it, I also had a similar console mount in the BMW was happy. I don't even use the double sided tape to keep it in place for my cell phone (not needed) but if you used that it should be secure enough for a small tablet
