tacky display question

I know it's tacky and probably doesn't match the 4runner spirit, but I do like the look of wood grain interiors. I know it doesn't really match the 4runner rugged spirit, but I was wondering if anyone added an after market touch of wood to the interior dash panels?
I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 Limited and I am finding this forum incredibly helpful to my decision.

i believe u can real wood kits but they're around 400. i got the fake stuff for alot less, it looks ok & is good enough for me. from sherwood dash kits.

That looks great. The fake is good enough for me. The pics are too good. That wood grain must have been specifically made for your 4runner, I would assume? It seems perfectly matched.

you can order any color & grain pattern u want, plus carbon fiber. lots of places sell the sherwood kits so ya gotta search for the best price. heres for 2010. I knew it was a tacky thought about wanting wood grain. Well, here's the deal. I'm about to purchase a 2010 and the interior display is very boxy. I guess Toyota's going for the "manly" look. I like the 4runner but the 5th generation doesn't have a very refined interior, even on the Limited. So I thought maybe a little wood would soften things up. Kind of to keep it rugged on the outside and a little "Highlanderish" on the inside.

i like it, heck they still make lots of vec. with the wood look inside, granted its molded plastic pieces that cost an arm & leg, i guess carbon fiber is ok since its the newer more modern look., back in 74 , only guys with alot of cabbage could afford the xtra wood look package in the car & it wasnt just station wagons that had it, & 4 x 4 s had very spartan interiors in those days,(i had a few) todays can be considered luxo by comparison. hell, back in the day, i liked the look but could never afford a vec. that had it until i got my 96 grand cherokee, after selling that i thought it would spice up the 4r interior, & it does make a big difference & IMO adds a touch of class even tho its just plastic. :lol: i sure woundnt have it in a vec. that saw alot of offroad, but those days are gone for me, things may have changed over my 38+ years of driving but i still like alot of things i did back then, & dont care much about any ribbing. im sure theres still alot of suv today with the look, bmw, etc. sure alot may not like it, so what, here it is in the new jeep GC,(from factory tho) so its still done. looks cool enough to me, may just be my next ride. 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Up Close - KickingTires long story short, do what ya want, dont let what others say bother u!

forgot to mention to the OP, if anybody says real 4x4s dont have wooden interiors, they either dont remember or realize that back in the 70s 4x4s had nothing like vec. assist switches, computers, abs, fancy interiors (ie lights, locking consoles, comfortable seats let alone ones with leather, warmers & electriclly adjustable, carpeting, etc.) or even heaters that worked well, & most had no ac. so if you could time machine todays 4x4s back to that time, i think they'ed say something like ," Whats with all the bells & whistles, real 4x4s dont have such things!!"

I like the chaz look

if it turns out to look as good as chaz's you are doing great.

I upgraded my 3rd gen to Limited woodgrain interior and get a lot of compliments on it. Now if only I could find a shift knob to match then I could die happy....

Obviously opinions vary on this topic....
