Hey; well; I've been posting here a few times looking for advice... and its helped, so thx! In January I have my 99 Tacoma a facelift and put in a 97 front clip. Finally I can post pics... cause i've been lazy. I know... it kinda looks crappy, but im waiting to do some stuff.
Here's a list of my plans:
- Make or buy a hood scoop for it
- Shave almost everything.
- JAOS Grill
- HIDs of PIAA white lights... idk
- clear corners
- 99+ headlights
- thats just for the front end.. I have a ton of stuff for the project overall. Hope you like. please input anything you want. I could use ideas!

It looks different now, and for some reason I couldn't put more than one pic... i need to get on that photobucket thing.... i'll post more later or when I take current pics.

I think it would be cool to see if the bumpers matched up, because there are alot of aftermarket bumpers for the tacoma, but no good ones for the 4runner. I've seen other 4runners with bumpers but could never get an answer of how it was done.

They sell a hood scooped 4runner hood.
There on the 01-02 sport edition Runners.
I am getting one for my 97 eventually, maybe by teh end of the summer...

that is not OEM, that is aftermarket, it would not be cheaper than the CAPA certified one if it is OEM. I would never buy a hood that was not CAPA certified, i would not trust its safety in a front end collision, they have been known sometimes not to buckle and instead just be pushed right back into the windshield.

The one that says CAPA certified is not a scoop, but is as good as OEM, but if it doesnt say CAPA certified I would not buy it, just my $0.02.
 
My friend has one of those hoods and they are decent but you will have to use your other hood's heatshield trimmed to fit the scoop and that price if for the hood alone,you'll still have to go to the dealer and get the insert support and screen. That's about $150 in parts for the hood.

The hoods are a coveted item and I've been offered $600 for mine to trade hoods but I bought my Runner partly due to the scoop. The hoods were available starting in '99 and if you just keep perusing the classifieds on here and yotatech they do pop up 4sale every once in a while for about $300. OEM is still the best way to go.
 
Okay, So if I don't go with that hood?

Where do I get my hands on one?

The stealer ship is obviously going to cost an arm and a leg.

And unless there is actual collision damage, none of the auto body shops around here will consider ordering it for me.

Many have gone after market with many other things dealing with the front end?
What makes the hood so much different?

Granted I am an all OEM type of guy.
But eventually you have to change it up to achieve what you desire....
 
Its really all your choice, i personally would not buy a hood that was not CAPA certified, if it did not crumple correctly in an accident then it could shoot through the windshield into me and the passenger. (obviously that is one in a million chance probably, but I still wouldnt risk it if i didnt have to) many people buy hoods that are not, and i am sure no carbon fiber hood is certified. I wouldnt have such a problem with any other body panel, because if say a bumper or fender did not act the way it was supposed to, it will probably not have such a bad effect.
again it is really your choice, i wouldnt do it, but then again it wouldnt be legal to sell them probably if they acted this way a high enough percentage of the time, i have just heard that this does happen sometimes with non certified hoods.
again just my 2 cents.
 
I wouldn't recommend putting HID's in the stock housings, they would give off too much glare and blind on comming traffic. The 99+ Headlights migh be a little more suitable but even those I wouldn't really recommend it. I would just go with the bright lights and leave it at that. OR you could do a projector retro in the stock housings. Truck looks good btw, I've seen a few runner front ends put onto the taco's and always liked them.

thx man; yea, i think ima stick with the PIAA's ... what about silverstars? those better or worse? thx
 
I don't have an personal experience with PIAA but I hear there fog lights are top notch. I do however have personal experience with Silverstars and there GREAT. I love them the light output is definitely noticably brighter and they look good. You will fid a lot of people over on yotatech and probably hear that would recommend them as well.
