Taco to 4runner

I believe there are 12 different sales regions in the U.S. for Toyota that each have different options and availability when determining how you want your car spec'd. That's why the online configurator asks for your ZIP code. Down here in SD, the only way to get a Trail Edition is with the KDSS bundled. Other areas (i.e. Texas), only sell the Trail Edition w/o KDSS because they expect people to be lifting their vehicles ( I would assume).

It's all different based on your region but you can still special order a vehicle with options that aren't usually available in your area. That process usually takes a few months....

I think that's the way it is here in Arizona as well.

I wanted a non-KDSS model, but they're not sold out here unbundled from the Trail model and the salesman couldn't find any non-KDSS models in the surrounding area.

It's simple. You're just "that guy". You have to have the last word and you've got to be the biggest prick you possibly can to prove a point.

It doesn't matter that you bought the Trail and that I bought the SR5. From the beginning all you wanted was confrontation. If that's what you're searching for then go on Facebook.

This forum isn't about being a douche. Voice your opinion. If you don't like someone else's opinion the go kick rocks. There isnt a need for your attitude.

You've proven your point. You win. You're such a man. You're so cool.

You guys have 14 combined posts, and 5 of them are in this thread going back and forth with each other. Pace yourselves.

3. Not really real life situations, but on this board, there is a guy who does the crash test ratings for vehicles and he drives a 4 Runner by choice, for obvious reasons. Real life situations, seen a few 4Runner crashes on this board, owners walked away from the the crash, the 4Runner was totaled but definitely did it's job in protecting the driver.

I liked the crash tests as well. Check out a crash test of a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and you'll be happy you chose the 4Runner.

OP is probably thinking to himself "what the hell did I say to start this cluster f***?"

Get whichever 4Runner model floats your boat and that you feel comfortable spending the money on. They are all capable, safe and reliable vehicles. You will not be disappointed.

There is quite a bit of misinformation already in this thread. Let me clear up a few points:

1. KDSS equipped vehicles (I had a '12TE with KDSS) can be safely lifted no problem with a full suspension or a spacer lift.

2. KDSS equipped vehicles are generally not offered in the South because of DEMAND, not because "people lift them more" lol. There is little demand for 4WD, much less a KDSS equipped 4Runner in Texas. Sure, reading this forum makes it seem like everyone wants 4WD and KDSS and lifting and big tires right? Remember we represent less than THREE PERCENT of the 4Runner buyers. Most buy them, drive them and never mod or even think about them other than a vehicle to go from point "A" to point "B."

3. The cost of a model of vehicle is different depending on location and demand. That is all. Pretty sure a KDSS equipped TE in Miami or Brownsville has as good a chance of sitting on the lot as a 2WD SR5 does in Boulder.

4. Vehicle features and options are designed to sell a vehicle, nothing more. If someone thinks the crawl control is the best thing since sliced bread then great. Others will spend $$$$ on a paint color. Still others will want better creature comforts. Everyone wants something a bit different and that is why they buy a vehicle with specific features and options. It has nothing to do with the validity of said options.

5. KDSS is designed for on and off road performance and is one of the few innovative solutions out there. There are currently no aftermarket solutions that will replace or improve on a vehicle with KDSS. Sure, you can take an SR5 and put a different suspension under it to improve off road ability OR you can put a suspension under it to improve on road handling but not both.

Remember every significant mod you make is going to compromise performance somewhere else in areas of efficiency, reliability, durability or performance.

The only difference between the TEP and the TE is two inches of extra head room, that's important for me.

I moved from a Colorado crew because of a dog and a kid. We can drive for hours on ruff roads with a happy family. We used to have to leave the dog at home when we took trips with all of us, now we can comfortably fit a weeks worth of stuff in the back and hit the road.

As for the SR5 and trail, the atrac just about does everything a locker will.
