Tacoma and 4runner headers

Looking to install headers on my 2002 because I have a leak at the crossover and can’t take the noise anymore. They are all pretty pricey with OBX being the cheapest. I did come across Tacoma headers for considerably cheaper. Is the difference in the catalytic converter placement on the Tacoma? Can they be made to work on the 4runner? Thanks

When I did my headers & cat back they were pretty much interchangeable but I have a 3rz. The only thing you have to worry about is one or 2 cats. Go to the LCE headers page & you'll see which ones fit what years. I wouldn't touch OBX, too many negative reviews. Just get the headers in, that's a pain all by itself on a 5VZ. Then any muffler shop should then be able to make the cats & exhaust fit.
My Magnaflow HF cat flange didn't line up with the Doug Thorley flange so we cut the flange off my OEM cat & welded it to the MF & was good to go.

Thanks for the response. I’ll prob go with 4runner headers. Most likely OBX because they are the cheapest. This isn’t my daily and from what I’ve read as long as you replace the manifold gaskets and don’t use theirs they aren’t bad. Don’t want to mess with fabing up cat pipes. Literally jus had my rear cat fixed because of hole in pipe. My buddy grafted in new Pipe and used factory flange. Even ceramic coated it for me haha.

The Tacoma and 4Runner exhausts are potentially interchangeable if you cat has never been welded on for the Doug Thorley kits. If you have a completely stock exhaust for the 99-02 years with 2 cats, it has been known to line up right. However, you will still need to have a flange welded on in most cases so it's not a bolt-on job even then.

If you have a 96-98 or 1 cat, it's almost guaranteed you will need a custom exhaust job done. Not to mention you'll probably have to relocate your transmission dipstick bracket as well.

Check my build thread for what the technician had to do to install my headers: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...-supercharged-t[u]rd-build-2.html#post2823900

Thank you sir. The ones I was looking at are on eBay . They are from Z Speed Star and CRP . They are a shade over 200 bucks . But I’ve never heard of them. Also O found some JBA’s for Tacoma for pretty cheap. So basically your saying there is a “chance” things will line up but also high probability they wont?

Early 99's only had one cat.

It's a 2002, don't expect anything to come apart without problems lol. Plan on drilling broken bolts out of the heads, happens most of the time. I was looking at JBA also, they look pretty good. Interested to see what people think of them.

YEAH i hear ya. Removed my second cat few weeks ago to get patched up. Had to cut all bolts with angle grinder. The JBAs i saw were for the earlier egr exhaust. They look good though.
