You can have a shop just fab up simple rectangle piece with corresponding holes and should only cost $10-20. All the other hardware is OEM is included with the plate but you will need another pair of bolts/nuts.

I'll take some measurements on the brackets and post them here shortly.

yep i did this mod and i love it! my only drawback was cutting a bit too short so its just BARELY touching on one corner. cant hate gotta love it!

Ron- Do you remember which part number you ordered? Would the one that you ordered work with a '98?

Any last gen Tacoma skidplates will work on any 3rd gen but the pre '99s don't need the extensions and my plate was previously on my '97.

I just contacted Toyota of Dallas's Parts Department and they said that the part ending with 30 was replaced by the part with 40, so that part will work with mine.

Reviving an old thread but I never did find out what the measurements were for your extender piece.

Excellent. Thanks a bunch, Ron. Also, what are those knub looking things on top of the plate, on top of the two empty holes? I'm such a dope with this stuff. Once I get the measurements I'll probably also print out a picture of your bracket to show to the shop so they fab it up properly.

Those "knubs" are the locknuts which were welded in place so I just have to deal with the bolt and they never have issues loosening up.

Here's another pic. Yes,I know the towhook is backwards but was remedied to fit the right way with a little grinding on the back part of the fabbed extending piece.

Well it appears I may have run into a snag. I don't have those pieces that you attached the fabbed extender onto. See what I mean:

Those pieces are the Tacoma brackets which should come with the skidplate and is why I needed the extenders.

That part with the hole in it will not be reused and is replaced with the bracket which replaces the part with the hole.

Ahh ok I understand, thank you. Did you happen to get a chance to take some measurements of the extender plate?

So it the 4.75" measurement the length of the bar?

I'm buying the Tac skid plate tomorrow for my 00 sports ed and I would really appreciate it if someone got me (and whoever is going to do this mod) the measurement between the rear hole (that mounts to the body) and the front hole (where the nut is welded on Ron's) taken from the center of each hole (or on-center measurements).

I think that would be the more accurate measurement rather than the length of the bar since I don't know how far from the edges the mounting holes are.

I did a lot of searching but haven't found the answer.
