Idk either. I live in s. Fl. Never off road just on some broken paved roads. Never any problems with my other trucks. Mine was so bad, wife didn't want to ride in it. Yeah, they just said take it to a car was and wash the leaf springs. But that with the strange shift points ( yes just had the computer update) and the cruise control up and down rpm changes on highway, just didn't feel comfortable with the truck. But pretty nice interior, lol.

I ordered and purchased a 2017 Tacoma TRD offroad. I drove it for 3 months and I am glad that I have a friend who is a GM at my local Toyota dealer. The truck was pretty good overall but what I didn't grasp in the 2-hour test drive was how uncomfortable the seats can be. You are either going to tolerate them, or will hate them. The lack of adjustment was just too hard to get over. I needed the ability to push the seat back but the steering wheel only telescopes about 1/2" so it was really difficult to reach (long legs, short torso). Mine did not have any of the problems popularized on the 3rd gen forum but did have quality control issues. The worst was the fit of the leather steering wheel cover. It was bubbled and the seams were nowhere near consistent. The drive was fine but I am seeing better mileage in my runner (18 vs. 19.5mpg).
I ended up getting a 2017 4runner Trd offroad premium. I am really enjoying it and really only miss the higher level of tech that came on the truck.
Thankfully I was able to get an awesome deal on the runner, and lose a minimal amount on the truck (~$2k).
Also, I do have a lot of experience with the Tacoma, I've owned every generation and this was the first that I could not deal with in a long term commitment.

My 2016 was the 6th Tacoma 4WD I've owned, after 6 months of ownership, I grew tired of the constant transmission shifting, and the most uncomfortable seating I've ever endured on long trips, I kept thinking it would get better.
Looked at used GX470's, but in the end wanted something with low miles. The new 4Runner just feels right, love the driver seat, and no need for a topper, lol. It'll get the first road trip test next week : )

Every forum has its asholes, bro's, etc. This one is not excluded from it although perhaps the % is lower than others. I've found that some of the classic car boards have the highest % of cool people. Well, at least the ones that I follow.
Two of my friends have Tacomas. Both are hard working guys, one in his mid 30's and the other in his low 40's. They beat their trucks to shit but they love the hell out of them. Both have shown much interest in my 4Runner as if I bought it from another planet. :biggrin2:
I suppose sometimes you just don't notice things unless you start seeing them on a more frequent basis.

I Drove a buddies 3rd gen for a few days to check it out. But like others have said I too feel like the seats are horrible and you can't see over that big ass hood. You might as well be sitting on the floor. The 4runner is way more comfortable.

Forums are great as a resource to see how many issues a model is having. Don't look at the people on them. Many would never step a toe off road after visiting Pirate, the the wealth of knowledge there is insane.

I was one of the original moderators of TacomaWorld.com (TW) between 2007 and 2011. I left my role there because it was very time consuming and I had several life changing events during that time. Every forum has at least a few unhelpful people. It is a testament to the moderators of this forum that the community here is as friendly and helpful as it is.
