While I was at the dealer yesterday for my 15k service, I was checking out some of the new vehicles on the lot. I really wasn't a fan of the styling of the 05 4runners. I didn't realize how much I like the silver bumper accents until I saw a 4runner without them. I was most impressed with the new Tacoma though. They had a black 05 Tacoma 4x4 TRD Sport edition with roof racks that looked awesome. The interior was pretty similar to the 4R. There is no way I would give up my 4R, but if I could have one other vehicle in addition to my 4R, I'd get the new Tacoma for sure. In terms of styling, it puts the Tundra to shame.

Yup, the new Taco looks awesome IMO. I also like the nex X-Runner built on that platform. It'd be fun if we could get the 6 speed manaul...

The new Tacomas look pretty sweet in the TRD form. Teh little base ones with the small wheels looks abit retarded though.
Teh interior is realy nice, I just wish they had a Limited DC with leather and electric seats. I think they are probably holding back till the new Tundra comes out. SO I would hold out 2years before looking again. I bet you willl get a V8 and leather then.
It is also pretty big, it feels slightly bigger than the 4R in terms of outside dimensions height, width adn obviously length.

Which DASH layout do you guys prefer, especially the stereo/AC controllers? Some magazine praised the new Taco dash layout and said some of the Lexus designers might have been involved. For me I like the Taco design.
Taco's pretty nice.
The Wife-zilla's been drooling but she has a 2 year old Matrix already.
However, the Taco does not have the fully boxed frames like eth 4Runner and still makes do with rear drum brakes like the Tundra.
I'll just wait till Toyota decides to make a real truck...a 3/4 ton diesel.......now that's going to be hot. Perhaps get a shre of the Cummins turbo diesel, or maybe get Caterpillar or John Deere to make the engine. 700 pounds of torque, 350 ponies, and Toyota quality......

Regardless of what brakes are on it, the truck has class leading braking, and whatever frame is under it, it's plenty rigid and has great towing/hauling capacity.
I keep hearing that, but who really cares? Seems like nitpicking for the point of nitpicking to me.....olliebear said:

Toyota already makes a diesel, you just have to leave the country and get a Hilux. Can't wait until they bring that rattle box over here.

The rear drums are NOT an issue. If you take a look at the performance data you will see that the Taco has the BEST stopping distances in its class. I have a 98 with over 80K miles and the original brakes are still in good shape. Pick-ups don't need rear disc brakes!
I would wait for the new Tundra before buying a new pick-up. The rumors of 350 hp are floating around.

Nope they really don't, especially as light as they are. Although rear disc's do make life easier when its time to change the pads, axle seals, or if you decide to do a full floating conversion.
