Tailgate hatch unlock fix

My 05 SR5 hatch will lock electronically, but will not unlock when I pull the handle. I reset the power locks one time and it unlocked once, then not again. I then replaced the locking mechanism with an $80 replacement from Amazon; still the same behavior.

FWIW, the Amazon special is nice and shiny, but it sounds "off" and I can't prove it but the timing also seems slightly slower than the original.

I am looking for advice on what to try next. Anyone had the same problem and found a fix?

Try disconnecting the battery for a little while which will reset the hatch ECM/computer, that sometimes resolves the issues that you're having.

After the battery disconnect you will have to reset/normalize the window switches functions, how to do this is in your owners manual, but you basically have to roll down the driver's window and then roll it back up and hold the button in the up position for a few seconds, do the same for the rear hatch window and sunroof if you have one.

This is what I did the one time and it opened. Once. Then back to inoperable.
