Tailgate Panel Upgrade

Hey 4Runner friends! I know that most of us with tailgate-style 4Runners have trashed tailgate panels. I came up with a replacement panel made out of durable plastic for my 1st gen and wanted to share. Thanks!

thanks guys!

I get the material through a commercial plastics supplier/manufacturer. They also do the cnc cutting for me. I'm selling them for not much more than the material cost at regular retailers. :thumb3:

TAP Plastics?

That does look good! It would appear to be durable too. My tailgate panel is in very good condition, but the internals rattle like crazy. It's somewhat distracting. :dizzy: How is this material soundwise? Does it dampen sound or amplify them?

Mine arrived last night. Looks good!
But it was too cold and late to go install it so I'll probably do that on the weekend.

The McLean Metals T-shirt is pretty nice also!

Thanks, McLean!

I haven't noticed any difference in noise, but the panel doesn't rattle at all. There is a bit of a gap behind it and could easily add some sound deadener material at least in the center area.

So this is pretty slick in feel? As in, dog will be sliding off of it?

It has a textured finish, but still about as slick as a standard cutting board. You'd really need a rubber or similar to get a tacky feel; that'd be much softer and less durable though.

Finally warm enough to play outdoors with cars today so I got the panel installed with new grommets.

Can't post a photo here but I am very happy with the panel and the way it fits.

Great to hear!

Here's a shot with the tailgate panel on a super rad 1st gen
