Tailgate sitting, yay or nay?

Hi, I just recently got a white 95 Toyota 4Runner (his name is Jeffrey) and I thought I'd join the community! ^~^ I bought my car off a family from craigslist so I do not have the owner's manual and I don't know if it would contain this info. Honestly I feel stupid for asking, but better safe than sorry. I want to back my car up to a firepit and sit on the tailgate to watch the fire, so is it safe to sit on the tailgate of the 4Runner? What is it's weight capasity? I'd rather not find out by sitting on it and breaking it... I tried googling it but it seems as though no one has yet to ask! Thanks to any straightforward answers!

Yup, best feature about the gen2, crappy gen3's don't have tailgates :redbrick:

you can totally sit on the tailgate. just a forewarning... if you park close to a fire with your door open, the next day your truck is going to STINK like wood smoke. (depends on wind too lol)

Heck, yeah. I stand on mine and use the lip of the tailgate as a step to reach stuff on top. In fact, I'm thinking of converting the black plastic trim over the license plate into a metal step.

I'm a fatass and haven't had problems with the gate, just make sure the straps are good.

I just went camping and sat on mine the whole time. It's just a metal door, it works great. I've got the same year truck as well.

I've greased the internals for the rear window a few times since I've had my 93, and under the fiberboard covered in carpet there is a sturdy metal plate underneath it. It is plenty strong, just figured I'd point that out since no one has yet.

I will literally jump onto mine sometimes when I go to sit on it or when I'm getting something from the back. They are extremely sturdy. I honestly don't know why I carry chairs in the back of mine. I never use them
