Taking the Tundra Brake Plunge

So I need to replace brake stuff, so I guess its time to just upgrade.

My question is for those that have done this: How is the aftermarket stuff holding up? I've read a lot about OME vs Napa, Autozone, etc...

Should I go OME rotors and aftermarket calipers? Should I not?

I hate doing things twice and don't want to have to keep replacing things because they can't hold up.

Any info if much appreciated.

I have the Napa brand calipers and ceramic brake pads. Both have held up well so far. Plus the napa calipers have a lifetime warrenty, so if they ever seize up, just take them in for a replacement.

Also I have Brembo blanks for my rotors.

I went with Fenco Reman calipers form advance, after discounts cost me only $45 each.

The reman's are probably OEM castings, just with new hardware, so the same thing as if you cleaned up OEM's and used a rebuild kit. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me, and compared to the crazy price of brand new OEM's, totally worth it.

For rotors, I picked up some brembo's off amazon for about $50 each I think. I think that unless you go super cheap, you should be fine. If you get warping, then you likely have other problems, like your rear brakes not contributing at all causing the front to work harder.

The rotors should be the same. The 199 vs 231 that you see refers to the size of the calipers. I went with Brembo blanks and Advance Auto remanufactured calipers (to take advantage of online specials and get a core refund) - just searched for parts for a 2005 Tundra double cab. It's only been about 20K miles, but I've had no issues at all.

He's right,it's the same (Tundra) rotor regardless of year (2000-2006) or caliper. I've done the upgrade to my previous Tundra.

Thanks for all the info guys. Brembo rotors are ordered and on there way. I got the calipers and pads today. WOW these calipers are HUGE! Fun times ahead.

I did the Fenco remans from Advance like Nelsonmd. I did the 199mm and love them functionally. My only complaint is that they developed surface rust pretty quickly, so they are now a burnt orange color. I should have painted them, and still may, it's just that now I'll need to clean the rust off first.

I also did the Brembo blanks (Brembo 25534), as well as Akebono pads (ACT812). Both have been great.

Yeah, I got a duplicolor caliper paint kit and painted mine, but I don't think it adhered well and I got a number of flakes come off during assembly. KInd of a bummer.

I went the 199mm route as well and plan on installing them Monday after my work week is over incase I have issues. My belief is the stock rotor is the problem and not the calipers so the 199's should be plenty for the runner. I might be wrong but should find out soon enough.

The main reason 199s were chosen over the 231's was ease of fit with my stock split 3 spokes.
