Wife has a 4Runner now and I have a pickup. Trading in my 2014 crew cab 1500 dodge. Love the 2016 4Runner but feel it might be too small for wife and myself and a 3 month old baby. Looked at the land cruiser and getting a great deal on the lc but still basically double the price. Both reliable both Toyota both can tow a trailer but 4Runner quite a bit less. Don't really tow anything currently except a trailer and quad on it.

Trying to justify in my head the roughly 35k difference. Thoughts?

Not sure anyone can help you one way or another if you think a 4Runner is too small for 2 adults and a 3 month old.

Can you pay for either truck outright? If not, only you can determine if it's wise to buy the LC.

Sounds like you're looking for a full size suv (sequoia or equivalent). Unless you plan on doing real offloading, which would justify a LC, but if you want to thow 5k into a 4runner and make it go anywhere. If you are looking for more luxury than a 4r and plan on going offroad and can justify a 35k difference, go for the LC. But I would personally never spend 70-80k on a vehicle I plan on hitting the trails in.

Well, the '16 is bigger than your '07 - not much, but it is. Take the wife, the kiddo, and all your stroller/diaper bag crapola down to the dealer and try it on.

The LC is bigger, but not all that much. If you're willing to even consider LC prices, and you want room, towing, Toyota, then I say Sequoia.

Yeah not going tru off-road. Would like to go camping and love the look of adding a roof rack etc to the 4Runner.

Can afford either but hard to justify. Don't really feel like the lc is so much more luxurious then the 4Runner.

Sequoia I have thought of but think the design is really looking outdated at this point and might be too large.

Personally leaning towards the 4Runner.

LC is so overpriced it is not even funny. People will say good resale LOL

As a percentage of initial cost... they are not very good at all.

Great trucks, just not worth the price no matter how you slice or dice it. Used ones are much more reasonable... LC guys love their LCs... so much so they act like other Toyota's are garbage in comparison. Its sort of a cult following, so don't ask a LC owner if it is worth it.....

5th gens are very roomy and comfortable, probably one of the best thing about them. Worst thing is the power and towing capability. They lack in that area compared to all the competition. Reliability... and off-road capability is great for the class. It basically comes down to spending 40k or 80k... Your call.

I agree with others, you should go take a look at a 5th gen in person. I really would find it hard to believe that 2 adults and an infant would need more room.

Also, do not confuse exterior size with cargo capacity. The 4Runner actually has *more* cargo capacity than the Land Cruiser. With all the seats folded down the 4Runner has 88.8 cubic feet of capacity but the LC only has 81.7. With the second seats up the 4Runner has 46.3 cu ft but the LC only has 43.

On the other hand the Sequoia has considerably more capacity than either of those: 120.1 cu ft and 66.6 cu ft, respectively. So if interior capacity is really your priority and you want to stick with a Toyota, you should check that out.

5th gen has plenty of room, but the question is what else do you need in a truck that you were driving? Maybe look at the Tundra Quad cab too. Plenty of room for a family of 3 in either a 4runner or Tundra Quad, but with the tundra you have more power and might be a better transition from the Ram.

I drive a 5th get and love it. I have a 2011 Dodge Ram Crew Cab on my farm and I love it for a farm truck. It is really a comfortable truck to drive. But going from that to the 4runner is night and day. Totally different feeling. Not bad, just different.

I was considering an LC but could not justify knowing how I'm going to throw it around the trails.

If you're looking for a daily driver, the LC would be best.

I advise based on money not being an issue.

Crawl Control is a Trail Edition-only feature (as per Toyota's website).

We have a 4Runner and one year old twins. I've never found myself wishing we had more space, even with a large tandem stroller, two car seats, and a monstrous diaper bag. Why do you feel it won't be big enough?

How much room can two adults and a three month old possibly need? The 4runner not big enough? Makes no sense.

You already have a 4runner? Why have two then? I mean if you want to just because you want, then fine, but I fail to see some other reason, unless you and your wife operate on a strict "she has her's, I have mine" relationship, then I can understand why you want your own 4runner.

If you want something bigger, than just say you want, no reason to find some objective reason for it, it is perfectly ok to want something just for wanting. I have a 2015 TEP which sits in a garage most of the time, and has never even seen a dirty parking lot, I just wanted the TEP just for wanting, I could have gotten a highlander and been just fine in life (except for wanting the 4runner of course).

Well I need a new truck and figure be a reliable sub since had barely any issues with the wife's. Do we need two 4runners but what else would you buy as a suv?

Already have a sports car and a small commuter car (911turbo and scion)

Guess I have been used to larger trucks like pickups bronco in the past. Will drive the new 4Runner.

Space wise, you be fine, but it sounds like you want the interior comforts of a limited and the capability of a trail. Identify what you want on the inside, like dual climate control and see if you can special order a trail premium with KDSS with the bells & whistles you want from the limited.

Thats the road I would have gone if I had the coin.

Btw, more than enough space for my 3 year old, 1 year old and my 75 lbs boxer + luggage for ski trips.

A few more things to consider, the limited has a substantially different exterior trim compared to the rest of the line. You might want to look into the xreas suspension to see if thats really what you want if you have not done so already.

I am coming from a Yukon. The 4runner is as long and deep just not as wide. I am 6'3" and added a full length Baja Rack. This is the truck for a family for an overlander and for getting groceries. I thought about a Sequoia -and did not want the added Soccer Mom effect nor the lack of 4wd ability.

I pull a trailer with 2 quads on it just fine through the mountains of West Virginia. It'll pull 2500 lbs like nothing.

A few more things to consider, the limited has a substantially different exterior trim compared to the rest of the line. Also, the 4wd engages automatically, not sure if you can engage it manually. You might want to look into the xreas suspension to see if thats really what you want if you have not done so already.

The 4wd is full time, it doesn't engage automatically. It's perpetually on.
