Well I need a new truck and figure be a reliable sub since had barely any issues with the wife's. Do we need two 4runners but what else would you buy as a suv?
Already have a sports car and a small commuter car (911turbo and scion)
Guess I have been used to larger trucks like pickups bronco in the past. Will drive the new 4Runner.
So... you have four vehicles for two adults and a small kid? A play car, a commuter car, a pickup, and a mid-sized SUV. First-world problems.
First, a 5th gen 4Runner can carry a heck of a lot of stuff. For longer trips get an aerodynamic roof-top luggage carrier for a few hundred $$ (mine will hold 2-large plus 2-carryon suitcases), and if you aren't towing your trailer you can also get a hitch-mounted cargo carrier. With two kids, my wife (who overpacks like crazy),
and her 40-lb Siberian Husky it's been tight but we've always had enough room. However, you already have a 4Runner, so you'd be duplicating capability.
Second,
if the 4Runner really isn't big enough, and you won't be taking it off road, then you should be looking at a minivan. They drive better, have more room, get better mileage, are more convenient, and are more comfortable than a full-sized SUV. And they can easily pull a small trailer with an ATV.
Third, were I in your shoes, I'd be looking at another pickup. The main disadvantage (for me) for a pickup is that with a crew cab and regular bed they're just to freaking long to be driving in rush-hour traffic... but you already have a commuter car, so that's a non-issue.
A few more things to consider, the limited has a substantially different exterior trim compared to the rest of the line. Also, the 4wd engages automatically, not sure if you can engage it manually. You might want to look into the xreas suspension to see if thats really what you want if you have not done so already.
The Limited has full-time AWD with a Torsen center diff.
You can also lock the center diff when going off road; when you do that it acts just like the other trim levels in 4Hi or 4Lo.
