Tank not filling all the way.. 12 gal per fill

hi, not sure if anyone else has reported this, but i consistently am filling way less than 18.5 gal (fuel cap).. not sure why but its generally about 12.5 gal when its running on E.. whats the deal here?? am i just re****ed and thinking the tank is bigger than it is, is there a 6 gal reserve or what??

also i think my ashtray LED went out, but i cant remember if there was ever one in there? if so, what # bulb is it, how easy to replace? are there other lights under the dash that could be out.. i bought her used so im not sure what might be out beyond the instrument panels?

As for the gas gauge, it is a common problem with 3rd gen 4runners. Do a search on here and you will see.

Private message the member FoSheezy and he should be able to tell you the type of light bulb needed for your ash tray. He seems to be the Yoda of yota bulbs.

What's you miles on the tank when you fillup? You should at least be able to drive close to 250-270 befroer you should really worry. The norm for filling up when it appears to be on empty seems to be about 15-16 gallons. There is a little over a gallon of unuseable fuel that will be left in the tank even if you run it out of gas.

yeah, ive been consistently getting around 13-14 mpg lately. 13 gallons gets me around 160-170 mi.. what would my first maintenance steps be? I have the old records, but what should i be looking for here?

any of these could be hurting your mileage or you have a real heavy foot at the stop lights....

what are your oil change intervals and so on?
