tapping into acc

Hi all,

I don't know if this topic has been discussed before, since I wasn't able to find anything by searching.

Anyhow, I am trying to hard wire a power inverter to my 4Runnner (to power some other goodies) so that it turns on automatically when I turn on the engine and turns off when I turn off the engine. I know some people have said to try and tap into the cigarette lighter, but I have also heard that it might not provide enough power to power the power inverter.

Anyway, has anyone attempted to do this yet or has an idea about where I can find the ACC line to tap into it (or where I should tap into it at)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend using a 12v relay, bought at your local Radio Shack for like $5, and hook that up. You can then use your cigarette lighter ACC wire (and a ground wire) to switch ON that relay, which can turn on a power wire (of the gauge you choose) that comes directly from the battery - that is, if you are concerned about the power draw.
