You get it.. The first transmission drop is the scariest.. I have faith you get it apart.

Feeling a little dense here... I looked around for a bit and didn't come up with a good answer.

About ready to drop the transmission and need to get the speedometer cable out. Most of the ones I have messed with have a knob and you unscrew it.
Not seeing it on this one and not sure how it comes out.

As mentioned that's not the speedometer cable (there's no speedometer cable), it's the downshift cable, here's a video showing how it's attached to the transmission.

Thanks for the video. Probably a symptom of baking my brain for 8+ hours in the heat under the truck

Overall, it went pretty well. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the top passenger side transfer case bolt. If I had an extra set of hands to get the socket on the bolt, it would have been out in 5 minutes. Going at it blind from underneath took a bit. Just really have the cooler lines and double check the wiring harness is clear and I can unbolt it.

Well, transmission is out and the only casualties I see now is the flex plate (cracked half way through) and the Dust Cover - Starter End Frame 28199-74110 on the starter. That was pretty much dry rotted. Found 1 place where I could get one, $3.00 for the part and $50 for shipping - LOL. Didn't see any replacement part numbers, yet...

Dust covers are gone... no longer available....not a major biggie.
Yup that flywheel is toast... Good call to replace it.

Best case scenario there. Sucks to have to pull the trans, but the engine is still good and she can be as good as new.

I'd either 'glue' the starter vent back on with some rtv or maybe stuff a little foam in the hole in place of it. It just needs a little room to breath when it heats up and cool down with varying conditions.

Ya, I was going to see if I can rig something up without destroying it when I go to put the starter back in.

Just waiting on the rear main seal to come via UPS today and I can start getting this all back together. The seal had what looked like some dirt/oil mix around it. I don't like messing with stuff that doesn't need messed with, but I don't want to have to do this again in 6 months.
It's always faster the second time

I had some high temp RTV laying around and thought, what the heck, I'll try to stick those dust covers back on.

It has to be one of the nasty looking RTV jobs known to man, but it appears they will stay on there now that the starter is in place. Heck, it will look great from the drivers seat

My TC shifter seat is falling to pieces, so I ordered a new one from Yotamasters and just waiting on that to get here to finish this all up.

Though, with the money I saved I completely justified making a stealth buy and grabbing a powered sub woofer for her (I'm a music junkie). I just hope the delivery gets to the house before my wife gets home
