In Canada, the only engine available in the GL-Class will be a new 340 horsepower 4.6-litre V8 with four valves per cylinder (yes, four not three) mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission that includes a manual mode activated by buttons on the back of the steering wheel.
optional Off-Road Pro Engineering Package which includes a Low Range gear, centre and rear differential locks, and an adjustable air suspension which raises the ground clearance to 307 mm (12 in.).
impressive but that is probably going to be expensive.

I alway thought they were pretty decent quality , have thing's changed in recent years w/MB. We had SL 500 triple black convt. that was pretty cool without any problems , pretty quick too. It should be for what it cost.
Don't call it a drop in quality. Since Merceded bought Chrysler they have determined that in the American market they only have to build to Chrysler standards. It's probably saved them a lot of money on the production line, and if customers don't come back, there are always new ones out there. You should feel good about yourself if you can afford a Mercedes car, especially if it's a big, don't call it a station wagon like the GL450. The overall design of this vehicle has finally caught up with a 1960 Ford LTD Wagon, only it costs more and has more gadgets. Just make sure you wear hearing protection. If you ever get in an accident that sets off all those airbags you'll be deaf if you don't.

I agree. It seems that Mercedes puts its money in some pockets and short-changes the others. IMO it is more cost-effecient (if that really applies in this segment) to buy a comparable BMW. No, it doesn't have the star emblem but it also doesn't have nightmare electrical issues and it is actually fun to drive, and comes with a manual too!
