It takes a little force to get mine off to, but it isn't because it's too tight, it's because the tube doesn't have much give to it and it's hard to pull it off the TB if the other side is still connected to the airbox. Just pull harder and it'll come off.
 
Holy smokes. My TB was pitch black. Had a insane amount of black soot all over it. I didnt spray the carb cleaner directly in it. Sprayed it on my wifes toothbrush and rag then went to work on it. Was a real pain putting it back on. Eventually had to coat the outer TB metal ring with a finger rub of oil to get it back on. Truck seems to idle higher/smoother now. It`s like 100% more responsive. :bluejump:
 
my butterfly only opens half way, am i doing something wrong? or more or less what else do i need to do to be able to clean that all out?
 
1/2 way is fully open, if it went past 1/2 it would start to close again. Or do you mean it's only going 1/4?

The best way to clean it is to take it off and spray it down a bunch of times, wipe, spray, wipe, etc...BTW, carb cleaner is fine to use. Don't forget to clean the IAC while you have the TB off. I recommend getting new TB and IAC gaskets too, they're like <$10 from the dealer.
 
i did this a couple months ago, however i just removed the intake box and tube only. i didnt remove the metal face on the TB, should i have done this? b/c i noticed i couldnt really get to the interior. is it ok if i did it again if its only been like 2 months?

Couple of questions. Any harm in using carb cleaner? After taking the clamp loose from the intake tube the tube seem like a very tight fit and i cant get it off of the Thorttle body without applying some real force. Is this normal? Am i going to have a hard time getting it back on?

That writeup is not a very good one. It's almost a hack job in my opinion. That might take care of some of the crud on a dirty TB, but in order to fully clean your throttle body, you need to take it off completely and get access to both sides.. It is easy to do. Just remove the throttle and cruise cables (no tools required) and zing those four allen head bolts out. You should be able to swing the throttle body around to get at the back side. If not, keep removing harness connectors and vacuum lines. You'll be amazed to see how much crud you missed from the front.
There is actually a much more detailed writeup either on this forum or YotaTech, but I can't seem to find it. Basically it says: 1. Remove TB. 2. Clean all the black $h1t off the inside of the TB with TB cleaner. 3. Put TB back on.
Bak3rme, you can clean it every day if you want it won't hurt anything.

wow guess i need to re-clean mine then, coz i remember just taking off intake box and spraying inside, then i took a toothbrush too it but somehow i didnt feel like i did enough..ill search around for that thread thanks
