Technical question.

I have a project in mind to increase the air induction into my engine. I need a source of compressed air that is created by the engine. Is there any place to tap into with a 1/4 line that will create at least 20 psi?

I know i could get fancy and use the exhaust mixed with intake to essentially create pressure but i don't want to do that. Any ideas guys?

Too bad you don't need vacuum, plenty of sources of that on the engine.

As for increasing the air induction into your engine, isn't that what a turbocharger or a supercharger are for?
 
Shawn, fourwd1 is dead-on--an internal combustion engine only pulls air IN (vacuum). The only place air exits is the exhaust, and using that is called turbocharging. Turbos and supercharging are the only ways to force more air in, and even with those, the max you can pump into a stock engine is about 7 or 8 psi before you start breaking things. Not sure what you have planned, but I guarantee you it's already been researched to death by many highly-educated automotive engineers, and it's been found to not work. You don't get something for nothing. Best of luck, friend.
 
You could rig the AC pump to be an air compressor. But using engine power to compress air and then feeding it back into the engine and hoping for a power gain is to ignore the first law of thermodynamics.
 
My idea was to use a venturi system paired with a deckplate mod pulling directly in front of the truck. In order for the venturi to work I need compressed air...

Ok, but if you use the power of the engine to compress your air, you run into the law of dimishing returns - it will take more energy to compress that air and ram it down the intake than you'll recover by having denser air to burn.

Turbos and superchargers work by harvesting otherwise wasted energy in the exhaust. You're proposing to use front-end energy that would otherwise be used to drive the crankshaft. Near as I can tell, it's a losing proposition.

If i wanted to use an external source i would just use a turbo molecular pump which can pull me from atmospheric pressures to high vac ranges -4+ mt within seconds. I might have to look into running some kind of conversion from the exhaust pipe. I appreciate the insight guys.

I do wonder though how much how much power would actually be lost, especially at WOT. using the venturi system alot of pull is created with slight air pressures. I essentially need atleast 70 psi to create a vacuum that will pull atleast 15 lbs. Although i believe that there is a limit a combustion engine can handle for air intake before it becomes to much, anyone know?

What small options do i have for a onboard compressor?
