Tellico Trip

what's up fellas?

so you guys are talking about going back to Tellico in March, huh? I was up there last sep. with some buddies, and it was a blast. I took my '87 w/ a 4" lift, 33x12.5's, and locked in the rear, all over that place. I destroyed trail 5, 4, and 8 right up until it hit trail 7, at guard rail, i turned back, due to no winch, and losing light. but it was the bomb! we camped up there at Danny's place, with the jeep on a pole. but i wouldn't mind camping inside the park. I know right around the start of trail 1 there are plenty of places to camp. so let me know when you guys start getting some dates together. i have a couple buddies, one with a jeep, another with antoher '87 4runner, and i am sure with enough heads up, they would be down to go. I have had my camping gear together since last year, just waiting to bust it out again. ---->

there are two campsites on trail 4 before you get to trail 5, each day we kept trying to make it to trail 8 but we didnt get an early enough start, so im thinking we may camp this time... trail 5 was rediculous and i want to go back when i get some sliders, but not before, almost lost a door on that boulder right before the river crossing, i want to do trail 8 because its the only f2 trail there, which is good for alot of people, though trail 4 is supposedly easy, i didnt see anything easy about it, hopefully i can find a rear e locker before then... we will see, atleast i need to get more armor so im not too worried about anything so everyone that is considering going shoot some early march dates out and we can start to get things put together

are you talking about the campsites right before the creek crossing on trail 5? if so, then i believe we are talking about the same place, and i definitely wouldn't mind camping there. the campsites i am thinking about are where the road is actually concrete, and after it turns into trail 1 and is graveled, you come up on a campsite that is pretty much directly on the creek, at the creek crossing on trail 5. I believe the boulder you speak of is on the opposite side of the creek, before you actually begin the rocky climb up trail 5?!?! does that sound about right? i am down to camp at either one of those spots. I can't do it the first weekend, b/c i am running a booth at the home & garden show here in athens, but any weekend after that, i would be down for! so keep me posted!

oh yeah, if that's the boulder you are talking about, i am very familiar with it, as it kissed my quarter panel just a hair, my first time crossing it!

nice, ill have sliders and a front bumper by march for sure.....

yeah we went down it instead of up it, its a little scarier going down it, when it was wet, only by luck did neither one of us meet the boulder, though we were both really close, and then that drop off right after/before was crazy, two wheels in the air, not good for atrac! just gave it gas for awhile and it beeped and jerked and finally got me out, thankfully, otherwise it would have been winching, which i hate to do!@

what bumper you going with? arb, tjm or custom? what kinda sliders? im tryin to figure out if i want something custom or if i want to buy some from slee, i really like those slee offroad sliders, but i dont like the price, i may get something custom that replicates slee's.... we will see, oh... and im already ready to see pics lee, so hurry up!!!

bumpers...haha

i found this guy online, at http://crboffroad.com/ the guys name is chris, and he's in ohio. he makes a nasty bumper for the front, and one for the rear w/ a tire carrier, and optional gerrycan & hi-lift mounts. the bumper looks stout as hell! The front bumper has roller fair-lead mounts for a winch as well as a hoop bar across the top! you should check them out. if you are interested in them, contact him through his website, and if you wouldn't mind, tell him tobi-wan sent you to him, then perhaps he will give me a discount on my purchase. :-) i am not getting my bumpers from him until after i get my taxes back in february, but i can hardly wait until then. I looked for a while before i finally found these. i am sure once you see them, you will agree.

that's funny!

i just realized you were talking to lee, but what the hell, check out the link anyways, the bumpers are the shit, and i know the tjm bumper i like is a "G" alone, whereas i am getting both of these together w/ shipping for a bit less than that!

yeah, your stock 4runner definitely wouldn't go there. it also helps that mine is locked in the rear, and I only went up it for the pic, but it looks phat!

come on now, we all that trail #4 is for "stock vehicles" hahaha.... although with a really good spotter and some good tires, you would prob. make it pretty far on the trail before you needed to be pulled.

i would def. recommend body armor and lots of skid plating (not stock, wont hold up) if you plan to tackle tellico

i was planning on running trail 4, 5, 3, and 8 but only running 5 down, from trail 4, i didnt like how i felt after i had completed it, so i want to rerun it... so, im game for the first week, although that is my gf's spring break, so perhaps the second week would be better, any thoughts lee?

found two more decent pics, my buddy and his gf decided to break up during the trip, so its going to be difficult for me to get the pics off of her camera... so this may be it until march!

a nice shot of the bumper with the skid plate and a little tire lift

climbing up some real wet rock with caked tires and sliding sideways, fun stuff

hahah

im going with the tjm t-17. im gonna put an arb sahara chrome hoop on it (this will make it truely unique!) which i got for a decent price off a YT member (bamachem)... and i have a lot of lights on my surco rack, so im gonna move 2 of them down to the bumper.

as for sliders, a local company here in new england (foxfab4x4.com) made a bunch of us NE4ROC guys sliders... theyre made of DOM steel, so theyre much stronger than any others youll see out there.

heres a pic: http://ne4roc.org/sliders.jpg

sliders should be on the next couple of weeks, bumper will be ordered today/tomorrow, will go on as soon as it arrives from tjm! :) :)

nice! i am planning on some sliders as well! but i am more focused on the bumpers right now, as well as a winch to compliment the new bumpers. I haven't really had any problems with needing sliders just yet, probably because of my clearance. but i know i will need them eventually. I think i am going to get them from all pro offroad, or i will have a buddy of mine here in town make them for me!

none yet.. im gonna sit down with ne4roc officers and the guys who run a "sister club" ttora-ne and figure out what dates work for the next few months so we can set up events...

ill let you know if that week works for them as well or if theres any interest in going at all.

im interested regardless, itll just be a question of availability as the date approaches... i often have to work random weekends, thats all.

a tjm with the arb sahara chrome loop? interesting. ill be looking forward to see how that looks, i just came into a couple hundred so bring on the sliders!! gotta get my gas tank skid redone as it seems to hit my drive shaft when im fully flexed out. now just to get a rack and throw some discount auto lights on it to be ready for tellico!!! im already excited... tellico is @#&*$# amazing! just remember its a 10$ per day fee to ride, but WELL WELL worth it

bah, $10? no problem with that.

yea im putting an arb sahara chrome hoop on it... i think! i bought it, will look at it and see if its worth it or if it looks good.. if i dont like what i see, ill sell it. those hoops are in somewhat of a demand, esp for a lower price than arb sells them.
