Temp Control Problems

I have a 2004 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I have start to have problems with the temp control on my car. I thought I had found the problem and fixed it but it still is not working right. So what is going on is that i only have two temperatures now. L/O and from 65 and up is hot. There is no longer the in between now. I have checked all the fuses and the relays. Those all check out fine. So Toyota told me it was the Control Unit had gone bad. So I found a used one and installed it and but still no luck. Now I don't know what to check. Any help with this would be great.

Maybe its something to do with the blend door actuator. Look under the dash to make sure it moves all the way around. It should slowly move as you bring the temp up. Im not sure which acuator it is but it should be easy to figure it out by adjusting the temp and vent settings.

When you say you have only two temperatures, can you change the fan speed and vent direction manually? If they work and it's a case of the auto system not maintaining the correct temperature I would suspect the temp sensor which is around where your right knee sits in the dash moulding below the key slot - there are a couple of small slots where it sits to allow it to sense air temp. There is also a sensor in the dash just below the windshield on the driver's side which measures ambient light heating the cabin (little domed thing - there is a second for the auto lights if you have them) - that is also part of the circuit for the auto heat system and could be another source of your issues.

I can change the fan speed and the vents. i can change the temp display from L/O to 65 and up to High but the temp from 65 and up is very hot. the L/O works for cold only.

So today i took the dash apart to figure out what is wrong, to see if it was the blend door. when i took the piece off under the steering wheel i found the Room Temp sensor hose and plug disconnected. so i plug those back in and turned the air on. Now it all works just fine.

I had the same problem on my 08 SR5. The dealer changed the control unit under warranty and it solved it.
