Temp gauge never moves up from below the ‘C’ Ever.

Couldn’t find this topic though I could’ve missed it since I’m researching
it with my phone.

For at least a year is my temp gauge NEVER moves upward any whatsoever. None.
It religiously and unfaltering remains down all the way to below the ‘C’
without any change regardless of the type of driving.

Is it just a faulty gauge or something else?

Also, I have the CEL on. Had the O’Reiley guy read the code
and it showed a P0440.

These two may not even be related.

Is the engine coming up to temp? Or, asked another way, do you have hot heat in the truck when the weathers cold?

You probably have a faulty coolant temp sensor or a faulty gauge. See if you can get you hands on a scan gauge (or something similar) to make sure the truck is getting up to temp.

The sensor that drives the temp gauge in the dash is separate from the sensor that reports coolant temp to the PCM. It's way in the back near your heater hoses and it's only a 1 wire sensor. See if it's connected. If I remember correctly touching the wire to ground should drive the gauge towards the hot.
All you have to do is have someone watching the gauge to do it quickly. Or ohm out the sensor if you have a meter capable of doing it.

Yay! Now you too can enjoy all the benefits of a mostly useless temp gauge! For instance, wanna' know when you've already cooked your engine and need to start selling off body fluids for a replacement? Just one simple glance at Toyota's ultra-spiffy "how cooked is my motor gauge" and you'll know all you need to know! Hell, if it's moved much beyond 3/4 of the way up – start researching the going prices of kidneys on the black market just in case you cooked the tranny too. Yay! Good times ahead!

All kidding aside, as mostly useless as these gauges are – it would drive me crazy if mine didn't work properly.

If that gauge ever reaches the top you can always unplug it.
