Temp Low=Automatic Recirc On

Does anybody know how to defeat the recirculation setting from automatically coming on when I decrease the cabin temp to "Lo"? I know the system does this because it typically is the most efficient when running the A/C, but I'm smart enough to turn it on manually if I want it on. There are some defeat methods for Hondas to stop the A/C from coming on when you put the selector to Defrost. Sorry if this has been previously discussed!

Hondas have a funny- key-on, key off, switch twice, key on, key off step (or something like that) that defeats auto A/C. To bad nobody has found the Easter egg yet for the 4Runner.

Unfortunately the only thing you can do is set the temp to 65 instead of "lo", which may or may not be cool enough.

You could shift the temp curve by adding a resistor in parallel with the cabin temp sensing thermistor. That way "65" could actually be 60, which should be cool enough. I might try this since I don't care how accurate the temp reading is. In fact it's really not that accurate to begin with.

I would have liked if Toyota would have given us a selection sheet like that prior to delivery. These selections would be a good tip to give to anyone who has not yet taken delivery.

The real problem is in cooler weather. Sometimes it does exactly the opposite of what it should do.

I get the idea that all this stuff has to be programmed by a dealer. How do you know what is programmable? Anybody here make changes to these settings?

Cars I've had in the past let you do settings yourself with instructions in the owner's manual.

The stealer has to program these settings. They are in your owner's manual.

mine isnt set like that. I keep mine set on low all the time and it doesnt make the recircualte feature turn on. i usually turn it on by myself when i get stuck behind a truck or a car with bad exhaust.

I hear you, Mafster. It's one of the most annoying things about the 4Runner. If I have to make three or more stops on the way home from work it seems I'm constantly turning off the recirc...and inevitably I forget.

This is one of the most annoying things I have ever seen. I HATE auto recirc and here's my reason:

I get in the truck after it's been sitting out in the hot parking lot all day and, instead of turning on the A/C, I roll down all the windows and take off. (I like the "natural flow" through the vent, so I usually leave the A/C & fan off while driving with the windows down.) After driving for a few minutes, I look down wondering what's up with the heat at my feet and notice the ol' recirc button is lit up like a Christmas tree. I HATE THAT! I'm bout to cut it out altogether or something. It's a stupid feature, except for the frequent A/C users, and even then it can suck.

If anybody finds a solution (i.e., 100% manual) to this issue PLEASE give me a holler.

so is that mean Toyota actually can re-program our unit to NOT always on when first start the car? i would love to do it if it can be done. it gets really annoying to me too.

its not in the c-best controls...

i was thinking of separating the circuit and adding a toggle switch to complete the circuit.

but not sure of intercepting the button would be the correct place.
