temp sensor threads on 22re

I'm trying to install my Autometer mechanical temp gauge on my 85 4runner with the 22re. I removed the OEM temp sensor that works with the gauge in the dash. The kit comes with the 1/2 inch adaptor to thread into the engine. The hole in the engine is for a 3/8 adaptor. No biggie, I went out and bought the 3/8 adaptor for Autometer as recommended from there directions. Now I can't get the adaptor to thread in. The threads match up on the OEM sensor and the 3/8 Autometer adaptor so I'm not sure if it's a fine or course thread thing. Anyone know what kind of thread is on the block where the OEM temp sensor goes. Any Ideas???

The threads should match up with the temp sensor you just pulled out, meaning the distance between each thread should be the same.

the treads do match up but something is not right or it would thread in. I can get about 3/4 of a turn and that's it. it just pops out

Ya its kind of a weird piece w/sae threads inside and metric outside, but funny they didn't provide it in the kit. Its not that they don't run in to this all the time.

Ran into another problem trying to install my new metric fitting. It threads in but is to long so it wont thread all the way down and crush the crush washer and seal so I'm going to trim off about a 1/8 of an inch on the bottom. That should work. I also had to bore out the center of the fitting a bit to allow the Autometer probe to go through the fitting. I'm gonna get this thing to work if it kills me.

Don't get how an Autometer standard temp probe doesn't fit through an autometer temp fitting. Weird

Yea thats a good name. Their stuff is well made. Maybe they don't make their own fittings. Anyway it sounds like you are well on the way to making it work. You know a picture of this little devil might be interesting. Other people are going to run into the same problem!
