Temperature Controls Question...

Just bought a 2004 SR5 V6. My question is it it normal for the right temp control dial (the one chosing which vents to operate) to have 1 selected all the time? I read the owners manual and it was a little vague.

The left & center dials can be set "off" or just have nothing lit, so is my right dial broke or is that normal?

That appears to be right, mine is the same way. When the fan is turned on, it will just come out of whichever option is already lit.

Completely normal. The right side dials/indicators are always lit to what it is set on regardless if the fan is on or off. As far as the left dial/indicator, I always thought it was silly NOT to include a light indicating that the fan blower is off. I had a red LED installed. Anyway, hope that answers your question.

One last question...if i want just the outside air to vent in, then do I just make sure the left & center dials are "off" & the recirculate button (bottom right) isn't on?

Yes. Although, you get practically no flow without the fan on. The manual states: "Fresh—Draws outside air into the system"

If you want outside air to vent in, make sure the recirc button is "off". however, depending on what temperature setting you have for the cabin AND the outside air temp, the HVAC system will "decide" for you to close or open the recirc vent. You can always override it by hitting the button on or off. When you turn your engine off, the system cycles and reverts back to "automatic", so if you ALWAYS want outside air coming in, always make sure the recirc button is off. It maddening, but Toyotas and Lexus vehicles do this. I've gotten used to it. It's the computers way of being more efficient in cooling or heating the cabin. Love it (or not) :biggrin2:
