Temperature Gauge and A/C Problems

Hey everyone, I have a 87 runner, runs and looks great. Ive noticed my temp gauge goes half way up upon cranking the engine and doesnt move up or down while the engine is running. This would be bad if the engine is running hot. When I turn the the A/C on the engine doesnt idle up. I ve adjusted the idle to 1300 rpms so when I turn the A/C on it drops to a 1000 rpms. Its a 22RE Would the cause for both of these problems be the same or 2 different things. Thanks, Any input would be greatly appreciated

problems

check a/c idle-up vsv(on valve cover). sounds like a bad temp gauge howdoes it act unplugged (fullcold) and grounded (full hot) if it does ok with these to tests try, I say try another temp sensor. should act that way during cranking

Would that temp sensor be on the thermostat goose neck ? I know of 3 temp sensors I dont know which one goes to temp gauge. And is that ac idle up vacum driven and where is it on the valve cover Thanks for the reply

sensor

if memory serves me correct, in the middle of intake manifold closest to head for sensor. vsv is vac & electrical operated two wires two vac lines, one to top half of intake other to a/c idle up valve(actuator). good luck
