It's time for that rebuild... 150k on her and lots of dents. Its been 7 years of a great truck with lots of adventure but its feelin it so I'll do mod level II and see how it comes together. It's a 2009 Limited 6.
I've almost rolled it a handful of times and have winched it out of some pretty exciting spots; reverse NV mud corner decent, WY pendulum swing save from certain death... and have used the bull prick I built for it now 3 times. Still running okay. I even drove it to Vermont from Santa Barbara, picked up my boat and towed it across country. Pretty good performance across the Rockies too, but have to say that southern Utah, Nevada and Cali were the toughest on the tach.
I bought it brand new and took it hunting within 500 miles where a ranch dog, two of them actually, tore the hell out of the front bumper skin - so that was the first to go. I added the Deelmo front bumper first of course, and a Warn 9.5ti. Then, because of my short-sightedness, I added a 3/2 spacer set up which proceeded to beat me and my friends to death over miles of jarring roads and trails. Run tall skinny tires always - like on my third gen, so that will not change. So - now its time for a little refresh.
I went to a dent shop and they wanted $500 to pull the dent out of the door jam. Think I can do better so I'll save the cosmetics for last.
Next up: Picture upload - through to current status, some start point measurements and then over the next week, provided the Radflo coilovers truly ship tomorrow. Just got that news this morning.
I just put on some new Cooper Discovery ST Max 235/80r17s so I'm set for tires for now. Also did the brakes with new rotors all around... and disabled TPMS long ago... So this is where I start.
Here's the short list:
Remove the 3" lift spacer system from the front.
Install the 2.5 Radflo's installed with the JBA HD UCAs.
Remove the rear lift components - except for the bump stops.
Install the Superflex springs with the Firestone Coil-Right air bags - and the old compressor / gauge system off my sold 98.
Install the Bilsteins out back.
Then I'll do the ABS/VSC/Track switch mod - picked up a switch for it already... and will likely install an aftermarket skid plate and some armor as I stole the skid plate off my daughter's 08 because my skid was split and the bolt mounts were torn. Guess I should stick with steel - and not go the aluminum route. RCI or something else. Not sure yet.
Provided i can get it all set before the end of the month - I'll take it on a test drive to Wyoming for a week and we'll see how it does. Once back I'll work on more armor, maybe a rear bumper, low profile roof rack - and then try to drink her pretty. Kind of futile, given the sage brush, manzanita and deer antler gouges that cover it - but I'll try clean it up a bit.
I hope to add a locker 3rd member at some point but that will have to wait for funds. We'll keep ya posted. T
