Test driving '15 SR5 and noticed hood vibration

the best to describe it as a 'soft' area in the very center about 15" x 15" that kind of 'vibrates' at high speeds. right in the middle where the scoop is on the TRDs

there are zero issues/repairs/accidents according to carfax but i had an accord back in the 1980s with an aftermarket hood that did something similar so i thought i'd ask on here if this is normal or not.

i've opened the hood and inspected inside and out and it seems factory so if there was a replacement they did a masterful job.

thank you! just want to make sure i'm getting a good one. :)

My '20 Pro vibrated pretty bad then I added some sound deadener and that helped. Now I have a '22 with no hood scoop and no vibration or very minimal.
 
Confirmed same on my Limited. Very thin skins on these body panels. Hood. Doors. Ripples in the wind and sounds like a tuna can. I love the vehicle though.

Wait until you take it through a carwash with a high-speed air dry. You'll swear the whole hood is going to come off! Never had any real problems with my hood overall though.
 
I'm 6'2", have had my TRD ORP up to about 100 mph, and have never noticed any hood vibration.
 
When you sit in the truck and you see the rear edge of the hood, it’s not bouncing all over the place? Now I’m jealous.

Not that I've ever noticed. Having been a master tech at one time who often was tasked with figuring out NVH issues, that's something I would notice right away.

Maybe Toyota made a production change to the hood over the years. I haven't investigated that though.
 
SR5 and Limited hoods flex because it's large and thin.

TRD Off Road and Pro do not flex because the bends for the skoop makes the center of the hood more rigid.

That would make sense, but '1000MPH' has a 2010 Trail, so in theory his hood should be the same as my TRD ORP. Unless Toyota did make some changes to the hood structural design over the years.
 
I’ve heard that before too but doesn’t seem to make a difference on mine. I also bought the insulation/liner that only came standard on the Limited back in the day.

Yes, hood flex is a real thing with some models. I have an 18 ORP with a scoop and I could see flexing/vibrating of sections of the hood on either side of the scoop at highway speeds especially if there were cross winds and buffeting.

Here’s how I stiffened it up by filling the gaps under the hood support ribs with polyurethane caulking. There are other methods in that thread.
