Test run using Acetone

I did a test drive tonight; driving home from Kitchener to London Ontario. I am using acetone in my fuel at a rate of 6oz per 75 litres (3oz per 10 US gal) of 87grade fuel, driving @ 112kph - 70mph and according to the dash display averaged 22.7 miles per gallon. My average doing the same trip/speed without acetone in my fuel was 19.6 mpg.
Seems to work :bigok:
Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Hey Mark, I just did an internet search on your suggestion - of adding Acetone to Gas...

According to Snopes, this is not a good thing to do, and acetone eats rubber gas lines etc. The T4R has a plastic gas tank (but I dont know specifically what type of plastic) - so Im not sure what effect if any it will have on your ride. the other point they make is that Acetone will eat thru paint.

I wish it worked, I would love to get more mileage out of my ride

I also did a little research with a few tuner friends and they said the same thing that acetone is bad to use for extended periods on most new vehciles as it will eat the fuel lines and certain gaskets.

I'd stop using it or any money you are saving will cost you alot in the long run.

I've been reading the research this guy has done. It's hard to know what to think the information on this site is pretty convincing.

Has anyone on this board tried this on a long term basis. If there is a possibility that it will eat fuel supply parts then you guys are right, the saving is not worth the possible cost.

I researched this quite a bit. The acetone will not affect any seals since so very little of it (3-5 oz) is mixed with a full tank of fuel. After considerable research, I decided to test it. I did not really see a difference after running 5 tanks. It is hard to say for absolute sure given different driving conditions, load / hill variations, temperature, etc. but I got within a few percent of my typical mileage since new. I may try it again after my 60k service when I change air filter, plugs, etc.
