That new 'Runner smell...

Hello from Texas!

Been a T4R member for a while, but wanted to save my first post to show off my new ride. I was given my parents' '99 SR5 while away at college in 2004. They soon bought a Sport Edition 4WD because they loved everything about the previous 'Runner.

After putting an additional 120K miles on the '99 (160K total), I decided to buy my own and just picked up this 2013 SR5 4WD over the weekend. The '99 will go back home to my younger brother to earn another 100K (at least!) miles and tons of fun memories with the car. Needless to say, it's the third 4Runner in my family and - if all goes according to plan - the one my future kid will drive off to college with.

Love this truck - can't wait to make many more memories with it...and maybe even catch the modding bug ;)

Happy trails!

Aaaaahhhhhhhh!!! I remember the smell of a new interior!!! Nice ride! Now chop it up and hang an axle under it! Just kidding.

Nice new 4nr! I also went from a 3rd gen to a 5th. It is amazing that after gaining about 1000lbs and a bigger engine that the 5th gen actually gets better mileage then the 3rd.

BTW, that "New Car Smell" is actually toxic off-gassing from the materials and adhesive used in the assembly of your vehicle. :D

Hmmmm...5th gen engine swap into my 3rd? Got me thinking crazy thoughts again!!!

Yep - I'm just blown away by the little things like downhill assist, the lights at the bottom of the side-view mirror, all the new buttons and knobs! Guess I didn't realize how non-modern the '99 was.

Or maybe I'm just on a high from the adhesive fumes ;)

Congrats on your purchase. The running theme on these forums seems to be that these last through many generations. Each generation falling in love with it more and more!
