I bought Some sequoia 17" rims WITH curb rash

1) what could I use to cover it a little?
Maybe plasti dip heavily?
2) would 285's be to big ??? For my 3" lift? (I want no rubbing!)

How bad is the rash? Could you post pics of it? A darker color would help cove the curb rash, but giving it a good sanding would be the best.

You can fit 285's on a 3" lift, but you're probably going to have to do some pounding and trimming to make it not rub at all.

285's with 3" is fine ... just don't get 33x12.5x17 ... stick with 285/70/17

Huh? That doesn't make sense. They are 1" bigger, but 285's are 285's. It just means the sidewall will be shorter compared to a 285/75/16 tire. The only way to gain an inch is going up in size on the tires not the wheels.

If you don't want to rub at all then get a 1" body lift or do a lot of pounding and trimming. Also with the Tundra rims you might have to get spacers to clear the UCA. Just depends on the tires you get.

Plastidip won't cover up the scratches all that well. They will still show, but may make them less noticeable.

Yes our stock lug nuts will work with the Tundra rims.

free is a better price... so far im at 6 of the 17" tundra wheels and i have not paid a dime for any of them. and for what its worth i have no lift and and running 285s with slight rub, so with 3" of lift you should clear 285s...

It's all going to depend on how much backspacing the wheels give you and the size of tire you put on it.

I'm running 285 75 16's on 3" of front lift and had to do SOME trimming. Nothing major, only to the lower plastic bumper valance.

The only time I had any other rubbing was if I was heavily articulated in the back.... and it was the rear bumper that gave me some issues there. That being said, it was REALLY RARE.

Good luck with refinishing them! If you do them Gunmetal, you shouldn't see the road rash so bad.....

I think you and SCRunner were talking about the same thing, just in a different way.

OP, if you running 17" wheels, you should stick with a xxx/70/17 tire. xxx/75/17 will be taller and will most likely lead to more rubbing.

How the hell are you doing this????? I've got stocks right now (no lift yet) with 265 and I RUB.

I was just being lazy and didn't want to type out the entire size each time. Thanks for making the clarification though for later users to not get confused.

it all has to do with the backspacing on the wheel, the tundra wheels have the perfect backspacing for a 285 70 17 on a stock height runner. now that being said the more i look at my suspension, how things move and the angles ect, when i lift it, i will probably need some wheel spacers or some different UCAs. but i have run two sets of 285s with my rims on stock height and they both were very doable. i did have to hammer down my pinch welds on the firewall/back of the fender, but i have cut nothing and only rub slightly at full lock and full flex. -they way i figure, full lock and full flex only happens at slow slow speeds and not all the time so its not a big deal and im at no danger of harming anything.

i have got my full set(4) of them from a friend who owns a bodyshop(tundra got totaled) and i traided my 17" tacoma sport wheels before insurance took the tundra... one of the others i got from my father inlaw -he got it from the dealer(dealer scratched it so bought the owner a brand new wheel), and the other wheel i got a metal recycler(i just traded them the scrap metal i was going to give them for the wheel)
