The $50 oil change... :O

I had the oil changed on my 2010 4R TE at the dealership and the price was just over 50 bucks! This is the most I have ever paid for an oil change... It's interesting that the oil was marked as '0w20 kit' so I wonder if there is some kind of oil container package they use for the trucks rather than having bulk on hand.

Has anyone else found the price for an oil change on the 4R to cost a bit more?

Still, it's a lot better than trying to do it myself in -20c weather!

My dealer here in Alabama charges 69.99, with a tire rotation. So far I have just used the free changes I got when I bought the vehicle. My Acura dealer was like $39 for conventional oil every 5k so I don't think that is too bad.

The 5th Gen takes 0w-20 which is a fuel economy version of 5w-20 and it is only available in synthetic, which increases the cost plus the 5th gen takes 6.6 QTs of the stuff. It costs me near $50 to do it my self so if that is what the dealer is charging I would say you are doing just fine.

Yeah, I pay around $45 for the filter and 7 quarts of oil doing the change myself. I get parts at cost through my local dealer, too. $50 sounds decent. You only have to change oil every 10k miles.

$50 bucks at the dealer is dirt cheap to change the oil on a 5th Gen! I had my local dealer do the 10K oil change and tire rotations (and other sundry inspection points). It cost me $99 for 45 minutes of work. As others pointed out, it is likely to cost you $50 or more in parts to do the oil change yourself. I likely will handle additional oil changes by myself, but wanted to check out the local dealership, as I'm new to the area in which I live.

Ok,so the 5th gen uses 7qts? If so you can buy the 5qt jug of your favorite synthetic for around $23 and buy a couple of single quarts for another $12 and a good filter for less than $10 and doing it yourself isn't too bad so under $50 is realistic.

Total price was ~$60 after taxes. 6.6 quarts @ $5.5 and then they charged $10 for the filter and gaskets. Then it was about $8 for labor and the $1 for waste fees. That should equal around $60 after tax, I don't have the sheet in front of me but its something llike that.

I was going to change the oil myself, but the weather here hasn't been too great and with the oil and parts it would have cost about the same price.

Has anyone found the 5qt jugs of 0w-20 at Wal Mart yet? I looked at a few and thye dont stock them, only the 0w-30.

I haven't seen it around. I think we will soon, though, because almost all Toyotas are coming out of the factory with 0W-20 now.

It is of interest to note that Mobile 1 responded to this question on their web site in August 2009. They, nor the other oil companies are interested in giving up the profit margin of selling the 0W20 by the quart as of yet.

I had a two year free maintenance package thrown in my deal when I bought my 2010 5thGen which includes oil changes with synthetic.

Strange, I was not notified about the increased time between oil changes, but then I'm in Canada and things are different up here I have read about it before on here, but my dealership has said nothing about it nor have I received any notice in the mail.

I bought Valvoline 0W-20 fully synthetic at walmart this week. $5 per quart. Worked out the exact same as $25.00 for my 5 quarts of 5W-20 fully synthetic for my Mazda 3. The Mobil 1 price was $6.73 per quart of 0W-20.

Don't get the Valvoline 0W20 in Walmarts around here (northwest suburb of Atlanta). I think the last price I paid for Mobile 1 was $6.27 per quart. Walmart does sell the Mobile 1 0W30 for about $24 to $25 for the 5 quart jug and there are 5W20 oils in the jugs. Just wish there was more competition on the 0W20 oils here or that Mobile, Castrol, Pennzoil or Valvoline would put it up in the 4 or 5 quart jugs.

$50-60 no way ever

Sorry, but I just changed my 08 T4R oil with QHP 5w30 synthetic I got on closeout at Walmart for $11 for a 5 qt jug (old style labels) and a $3.00 Fram TG filter from Rock Auto. No way am I paying over $20 for a synthetic oil change. My dealer only charges me $5.00 for a factory filter as well. They send me coupons all the time for $29 oil changes and I still do my own.
