The Autolock

what do you guys think of the autolock? i dont feel like gettin an alarm becuase its +$200 i can spend elsewhere. EVERYONE ignores alarms anyways. Do you guys think the Autolock is a good product? I think it is waaay better than the damn club from the 80's.

the concept does make perfectly good sense! cant shift outta park until you press teh brakes, so why not lock up the brake pedal?!?! do yuo know of any ways thieves have been able to bypass the autolock system? i see the infomercial every once in awhile and i am always amazed at the kit. it does a good job of making me want the product but i just have to ask my T4R boys before i go spending a good $30.

and no way am i planning on putting that stupid steering wheel cover on the my car! people will probably break into my car just to take that ugly cover off the wheel for me!!

I use the autolock. I also use the wheel cover. I'd rather they see the ugly yellow cover than to break my window and then see the autolock. By then it's too late. Happened to me in the past.

Don't buy it, its a bogus item. My wife's car was stolen with its autolock on it. The thief twisted the autolock to the left side and managed to get it off(yes it was on secured). I wouldn't trust that thing with my runner. Instead I invested on a Lojack. In the end if someone wants your rig bad enough, they will take it. I don't worry about it, thats why I have insurance.

i also use the auto lock, and it works fine for me. you can still override the shift lock and shift by using that little shift lock override box next to the park selector, but even then you can't steal a car without using the brakes!

I have a few comments about this. Let me start by saying I too was giving serious thought to buying this, but you know what: it's just not worth it. I have seen and met my share of car thiefs, and nothing get's in their way if they want it. Yes somethings do deter them away for they do not want to bothered, but in the long run if they want it, they will get it.

Now with that said, I see three ways around it. Do not try to convince me you cannot pick that lock. Why not take a battery powered reciprocating saw to it? Or how about this, unscrew the brake, or gas pedal (depending on where you put it), and using your hand, foot, hammer, or a combination of three slide it down enough to remove.

In the end I think it's a annoyance you do not need, nor will help you much.

All you have to do is spray freon on that sucker and smack it with a hammer. You'll have it off in 10 seconds.

I once saw a club installed on a YUGO! But I'm not as concerned about the whole vehicle being stolen as I am about some moron breaking a window to steal its contents or vandalize the car. If it can't be hotwired, theives will use a tow truck to just hook it up and haul it off. Nobody usually questions them, because they appear to be legit. At night I park in my garage, which is secured and monitored by my home alarm system. But when you're at the theater or shopping or even travelling, that's when you're more vulnerable to theft. I'm considering installing LoJack (get a nice discount through my employer) and perhaps installing a silent paging alarm so I'll know when the vehicle is being tampered with. My neighbor has one and actually caught someone in the act. He snuck up on them and held the wannabe thief at gunpoint until the cops arrived... He said the look on the guys face (other than fear) was priceless.

Since folks usually do ignore alarms, how about installing an ear splitting shreaking device up in the headliner, (similar to the one that's on some ADT systems) and blinding disorienting strobes INSIDE the vehicle to make it "uncomfortable" for anyone to remain inside. It's too bad they don't have integrated "flash bangs" or other disabling measures available on the market, as the only good scumbag is a maimed or dead one.

I had a 140 dB alarm siren inside my last car. Anyone sitting in there too long with that going off would have some nice hearing damage. It's pretty easy to hook one up. Just tap your alarm lead and put the siren under the seat or dash.
