The Beast Meets Snow. Pirelli Scorpion ATR

Scorpions were easily competent during the past 08-09 winter here in Anchorage. No flat tires. No flat spots under severe cold up to 30 below zero.

ATR's with 25K miles now....took them into the local tire dealer (Johnson). Tread is substantially there a little wearing on the front outside on both tires (now rotated). They have been very good and hold the road tight in the past month with a good deal of August rain. Dealer thinks they should easily perform as well as last year. Looks like I will get at least 2 seasons out of them probably 50K miles.

Originally paid around $800. for the set with $100 off coupon from Americas tire and trade in $120 for the Dunlops I think. Now living about 13 miles from work will give the forum an update if studs are needed this winter. Pleased with them so far.:driving::driving:

Indeed they are a great tire, I had them on my Range Rover Sport. Fantastic on the beach and just as good in the snow, Good choice in tires!

Thats great to hear, Im still debating these tires with Revo's, for the price they are hard to pass up.

Long Term Test Pirelli ATR Scorpions

Fast forward 5 years After travel to and from Alaska and putting on some road miles here in San Diego the Scorpions have 67K miles on them and going strong. I stopped into Discount Tires yesterday in La Quinta. They have another wet season on them per the tire guy. That will equal about 72k miles before replacement is due. Travel back to Alaska June 2014.

In addition they were competent across packed snow/ice to Alaska. I replaced them when there with dedicated Winter tires Nokian SUV Studded due to ice traction.

Needless to say, I am impressed. Will buy again...without a doubt. Perfect tire for the 4Runner imho.:banana:

Those are some long lasting tires! Nice follow up report btw, it sounds like these tires have definitely put some work in.

Would love to see a trip report on the drive from San Diego to/from Alaska, I've been planning such a trip with my brother and a couple friends.

I just put my 2nd set on from Discount about 2 months ago. About $850. old.

I can't believe you don't run winter tires in Alaska. Got a set of Blizzak DM-V1s that changed my life after realizing how bad A/T tires really are on snow. They are even worse than all-season tires according to Consumer Reports testing.
