Hey guys. I just got my grill and I wanted to know if any of you sanded before painting or can you straight paint? I wasn’t sure but a few videos I saw they sanded before. If you have to sand then why grit level and type of sand paper?

I think that might be too aggressive for the garnish piece. That may end up digging into it and leaving marks. You just want to lightly scuff it. A scotch bright ultra fine or equivalent 800 grit paper would be good.

I rattle canned them matte black before installing. Needed it to match my scheme. [emoji1687]

If I understand your question, yes I do believe that the diamond shaped LED lights from CarTrim fit into the diamond shape cutouts on the upper grill without any issue.

that's what I'm going to use before painting..was also thinking about hitting it with a clear coat just to make it last longer..anyone done that?

Use SEM Trim Black. Clear coat probably wouldn't look too good IMHO.

Honesty all these worries about the garnish piece fading are excessive IMO. If it fades it fades and you just paint. But if you paint it first with a few coats it will last a pretty long time. And then if it fades, paint it again or with how cheap they are buy another in a few years.

Just installed this grill on my Limited. To make the grille fit correctly I had to trip the bottom of the grille with my Dremel. I didn't want to fit correctly the first time around as the tap did no hold.

I added new tape and zipped tied the grill for 10 min or so. It is holding nice and strong now. Really happy of the new look.

Another tip you may have to heat the new garnish piece so it becomes more flexible and fits easily / properly.
