The Chinese Special TRD Grille... on the cheap!

Hey guys, I just ordered this and I wanted some feedback on fading and paint. Would you guys recommend I paint this first and if so, what paint should I use?

Also, what paint is everyone using on the lower valance?

Doesn't hurt to paint. Most are using SEM trim black

Alright - so I was informed the FBA email is related to CarTrim. They specialize in plastic injection and molding but outsource the LED lights. The 4 LED lights were on backorder but are now in stock and past orders have been shipped. If you haven’t gotten an email with shipping confirmation, please private message me your order number and I’ll help to obtain it for you again.

They are also going to take steps to update their site when they are approaching low inventory.

It sucks and was an unfortunate communication gap but hopefully it gets better going forward.

Looks like the LEDs they ordered off amazon for me doesn't have the fuse/fuse holder even though I selected that an option. Emailed them. What a pain :frusty:

Excellent! I did confirm everyone should get an email when the grill ships that contains tracking info. Just google the number EA* and select the USPS (United States) option or Canada (Canada, obviously) for the details.

I got mine last Fri via Fedex, a few days earlier than estimated actually. I just got around to opening the box. Everything seems to be in order and got the fuse as well. Now I just have to wait for the heatwave to subside before installing it! Thanks again!

I was able to get it sorted, got the bumper installed. It fits okay, I've got a bigger gap on the left side than the right, and the top clips stick out a bit, still seems pretty good for what I paid.

Those letters are a real pita to align!

Looks good! Yeah, it took me a few tries to get the letters lined up. I used masking tape to line up all the bottoms and then applied them.

Finally got mine in... installed it, and everything worked out well.


WORD OF ADVICE for the install, start with the “upper lip” and align the notches/grooves. This will help keep everything centered, and avoid any warping/off-centering.

For example:

I took off the upper grilled, pulled off the cover, realigned it, and all is well.. it fits perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion DILLUSION!

Finally got mine in... installed it, but had a few questions:

1) does anyone else have this weird dip in the top center/bulge to the left and right of the dip?

Sounds like you tried to force it on flush and the plastic is folding.

Try to take a heat gun to it to form to the curve of the grill. I use straps and a heat gun when I put mine on to form it and no bulges.

You sir were 100% correct. I pulled it off and realigned the fit, starting with the top lip and notches first. It fits perfectly. Thanks for the advice!

Glad it worked. Mine did the same thing. Its not as curved as its supposed to be.

Went ahead and plastidipped the open corners in about 10 minutes of half assed taping. I think I like it better now.

Been on the fence a long time regarding this mod. Finally did it. Fits just fine. I used real 3m tape not China 3m. Real TRD might be better but not $475 better!

Thanks for this thread, gang. Ordered mine the other day and will be installing it next week. Ya’ll saved me about $500. I ought to have my TRD Pro clone look for less than $1,000 in parts. Going to grab some new more aggressive looking tires (Duratracs most likely) and it’ll be complete. Well as complete as I’m making it... not going to worry about the hood scoop.

got my install completed. Since the package didn't ship with anything to install the smoke lights in the grill, I used 6/32 machine bolts. Perfect fit and they self-threaded without any problems. I did screw up putting the first "O" on, so I had to scrape the old tape off and put new tape on. Looks better now, LOL.

I still need to get a permanent wiring solution to the marker lights. Might have time to do that this weekend. In the meantime, here it is:

Installed. Installation was easy peasy... about 30 minutes. Everything lined up properly. Grill had slight depressions and letters had slight matching protrusions so no lining up, tape or guesswork. Got it through EBay but wish I had seen the CT post first - looks identical to the one I got and $24 cheaper. Happy with it.
