The "Clunk"

Question: Has anyone had a Clunking noise after you break and the rear of the 4runner settles down? I am told, and I have read, that it is the Driveshaft flex joint (proper name escapes me). The connection stretches as the rear end goes up from breaking. Once the vehicle stops and the rear comes down it moves back into place. However, it makes a "clunking" noise for me. I have read that you need to fill it with grease and do this from time to time. Any other suggestions? Dealer is no help. "Everything is to factory specs..Bologna. This can not be right.

It really helps if you tell us what you're driving, different years have different problems.
What you're describing is a common problem with the 4th gen (IIRC) trucks.
The only solution I've heard of is keeping the drive shaft slip joint well lubed.

I second what you've already said... add more grease through the zerk fitting & see if that fixes your problem.

I second what you've already said... add more grease through the zerk fitting & see if that fixes your problem.

If it's a 3rd or 4th gen I'm gonna agree with these guys. I've got the same problem- 1 dealer had no idea what I was talking about and said it's fine, other dealer knew exactly what I was talking about and they said it'll just need a lube in the slip yoke which will be like $150 for labor or so and problem solved... They have to drop the driveshaft
