Yes, it will be worth it. I showed my 'new' truck to a friend-who didn't know it was mine-and he started in with:

"I'd never own..."
"Motors are junk..."
"Expensive as...."

Then I popped the hood and showed him the 22R and it was:

"Well, you're good then."

JASPER sells rebuilt, warrantied 22re's for $1836.00 or so...with install kit ( clutch, tune-up, etc, ) for $189.....WAY better deal!

Trust me I could have saved almost 500 of it if it were not for the lack of a sheltered area to work... For some funny reason here in south florida it tends to rain every day during this time of year so basically by the time I got off work open the hood it starts to rain. I gave up trying and finally sent it to a shop... Also I did a radiator upgrade. I think by installing a V6 radiator instead of a new 4 cyl I will eliminate cooling issues caused by having a winch.

I could have gone as far as only redoing the head gasket I just felt what the heck its going to be apart why not go all the way and have piece of mind.

Cooling issues with winch? I have an M8000 on my bumper, and haven't had any issues.....Maybe a little cooler here in Oregon, but even on a 90+ day, no overheat. Best of Luck!, I think I will be doing mine soon too...Besides, More satisfying when you rebuild your own junk!

This engine rebuild has been a complete PIA... So I will give you an update. As of now. I got the motor picked up and took it to the machine shop upon arrival I got my first suprise the entire engine was still intack. I was not the one who picked it up my dad did for me since well I don't have transportation. So the machine shop tells me it will be done Tuesday. Well It rolled around and Sure enough it was ready I thought not bad a 3 day turn around. So the following pics are what I got back from the machine shop.

As you can see everything is new the motor was bored 40 over speck. All of the gaskets are metal. And now for the not so good. Along with my motor I got two yes not one but two cardboard boxes filled with this.

And after getting this home I get a phone call to tell me that they forgot to put one of my motor mounts into the box so now I have to drive another 30 mile round trip to pick up the other mount.
Now mind you nothing has been cleaned or painted and I also have to swap over all of the accessories and sensors and fuel injectors to the lower plenum myself. So I spent the next 2 days after work cleaning off parts and repainting them.

I finally drop the motor off on thursday morning still in pieces only to argue with the owner saying it is going to cost me even more money to reinstall then originally agreed upon. This thing is starting to suck the life out of me. And I am still looking at a Wed Thurs return date possibly. I called on saturday to see status and the owner of the repair shop admitted to me that he should have NEVER removed the Fuel injection from the engine bay and sent it to the machine shop...

More Wonderful news...

So I get a call telling me I have no spark plugs (Which I bought and two of the three radiator hoses are wrong.)

Well I go pick up the parts and head over there. I walk up to the truck hood is on the ground scratched to shit and the motor is finally in the truck.
I then look closer and realize they put my old radiator in and can't find my new one. So I call the owner and point it out. After about 2 min of digging it was found under a couple of boxes...
