The dreaded p1441 code

My SO called me complaining that the VSC and CEL light was on and she couldn't go above 50 MPH. Cleared the codes and they came back after a week or so.

Cleared them again and they came back a couple of days later. Truck has all the signs and noises of a failing air pump.

I've got 146,000 miles of what was up until now trouble free motoring. Is there anyway for me to disconnect the pump and run the truck until I can get the bypass kit and put it in?

Hey man,

Literallllllly just went through the exact same problem...I tried every and all routes to take care of the problem.. The noise was there everyday without fail. and I had the safety limp mode twice where the truck wouldnt go over 50mph.

Order the kit ASAP. do not wait. If the truck drives normal it means the valves are not stuck or stuck closed. THIS is when you need to put the kit in. If you continue to drive and they get stuck OPEN.. you cannot put the kit in unless you also install block off plates, which adds alot more work to a 5 minute job.

You can unplug the pumps, you'll just get a check engine light, but with it stuck open, I wouldn't try that. I had to unhook the battery every time I got in limp mode, which was quite often.

Thanks for the replies. Since this is my SO car and I don't drive it doesn't mean I don't have to hear the endless complaining from her. She has been wanting a new car for a couple of years now. 10 years almost 150,000 miles is a good run, so we decided to trade it in for a new 4runner. We are picking it up Friday.

Well.. thats one way to solve the problem I guess lol

Yea...after all was said and done this was the easiest way to go. It was time,10 years is a long time in the same car. Lot's of memories.

We picked the new truck up today, dealer gave us $6500 on the trade, put most of it in our pocket and the rest towards first payment, registration and tax.

The new truck is really nice, still feels like a 4runner in a bigger nicer package. I love that it's a couple of inches wider and longer. It's all useable room. More cargo space too.

The only thing my G/F isn't happy about is that it's part tome 4wd, where the 05' was full time AWD. She want's to leave it in 4wd all the time.

The ride is still very nice, one thing I noticed it leans a little more then the 05' This is partly because the new 4Runner is 3 inches higher, and also that this one doesn't have the XREAS suspension that the 05' limited had. Again, little things that I notice, my G/F won't.

Here ya'go!
