The Effects of Pot

Tylenol has been noted be very safe in folks without major liver problem for ages. Tylenol cures all, as your mother may have said. Unlike Motrin etc., Tylenol was thought of as being perfectly safe in all patients unless you overdose yourself...hell, even with liver damaged patients, you can still give Tylenol in smaller doses. Tylenol has been around for decades.

Fast forward to last year. In a relatively big study, Tylenol was found to be toxic to the kidneys! But, it is not just one dose or two or three. But, it is LIFETIME CUMULATIVE EFFECT. Basically, it is about how much you take over your lifetime that determines your kidney damage in old age. Unfortunately, there are many folks on dialysis from this type of Tylenol poisoning.

Why do i tell you guys this? I don't give a rats ass what "they" say about THC and how "safe" it is...anything that alters the mind (or whatever it does to the sensory system) is bad. We don't understand most of our brain at this time. How does one determine that it is safe on the mind when we don't fully understand it?

Just my opinion.

I don't know...if you guys need weed or whatever to enjoy a day at the pool or to appreciate rolling mountains, then maybe you guys need to check on your life situation?

Sounds like you don't know. For a guy who's so fascinated with the minutia of which cellphone is best, what do you care if someone enjoys kicking back and relaxing with a quick hoot once in a while?

He's from Texas, of course he'd say something stupid like this. So enjoying a cold beer at a football game or tropical beach requires someone to check their life situation too? You stupid ignorant Texan.

And you're from Colorado. . you stupid ignorant high Coloradoan? Kind of a rude statement to come in and say that. But yes what weed does to you is NOT safe. I will leave it at that. The argument IS that simple. In working in mental health, brain mapping, and with psychotropic drugs, pharmacist and psychiatrist, weed is NOT good for you. And thats all I'm "contributing" to this topic.

Thanks...love Texas. I feel bad for Colorado folks though.

Smoke THC away dude! Drink too...lots of it! I hear tobacco is also great stuff! It is ignorant folks like yourself (both of you) that keeps my profession in business! Of course, you better have some health insurance...at least be a paying ignorant fool in my hospital! Much appreciated!

A quick hoot? Ahhh, the last words of so many tragic events in the world....

I'm interested in your experience with this. As well as understanding what makes you an expert and why you're so sure of your perspective.

We've already determined that using alters your perspective. That's kind of the point after all, right? I'm not going to say that using is good for you, in the sense that taking vitamins are (for example). But, very few things in life are safe.

Just think of all the "dangers" that are legal, available and bad for you. Cigarettes, alcohol, red meat, fast food, sugary refreshments, candy, etc. These days even gluten is apparently bad for you.

Thai makes a good point about Tylenol. In that, everyone told you it was "good" for you until it has been around long enough for people to study the long term effects. Aside from the obvious respiratory issues that could surface from smoking (anything), I'm not sure anyone will find any legitimate long term problems with using MJ. And, with dabbing being the new thing there is even less likely that it will cause physical harm.

I don't know...if you guys need weed or whatever to enjoy a day at the pool or to appreciate rolling mountains, then maybe you guys need to check on your life situation?

Regardless of your profession or opinion on the topic, this is a pretty ignorant comment. We're not talking about people doing heroin here. Besides, some may think a person with nearly 15,000 posts on a car forum needs to "check their life situation."

just saying...

It is ignorant folks like yourself (both of you) that keeps my profession in business!

A quick hoot? Ahhh, the last words of so many tragic events in the world....

What do you do, that gives you this self righteous attitude? If you were really as smart as you think you are, you'd know that the last words of so many tragic events in the world are, "Hey, watch this!"

Dusty, i am in the medical profession...specifically in a hospital setting. And yeah, ignorant folks keep me busy and pay the bills. :) It isn't self-righteous, it is the truth. Practice of Medicine involves correcting many folks' ill-advised decision-making. I am sure a mechanic will say the same thing about ignorant folks screwing around in the engine bay with little knowledge.

How long has Tylenol been around? It is only NOW that we know the long term cumulative effect of Tylenol on the kidneys. No one knew. No one was looking for it either...maybe that is why it took so long?

BTW, i have 15k posts because i love to answer these posts by folks who have no clue! :D They are young...what fear do they have, right? Look, do what you want with your life...just make sure that you have health insurance down the road. Your doctors and hospitals appreciate that. Oh yeah, when crap hits you due to these indiscretions, please don't say, "oh fu*k, i didn't know...if only i knew...." Geez, i hear that all the time. There is a lot of young folks here...that feel like they are invincible...until it is too late. I am 38 years old, but damn i feel old on this forum! :D

This thread isn't about alcohol, or tobacco, not sure why you'd bring those up. They are both universally accepted as bad for your health, yet they are legal.

You keep referring to "your hospital", and that you're in the medical proffesion. What is it you do exactly? Dr? Murse? Janitor in a hospital? What background is all this infinite knowledge spewing forth from?

I'd love you to provide a single example of a tragic event in the world that was preceded by "a quick hoot". Just one, I implore you. Then you can get back to the differences in the iphone 5 display vs. the SG4, or whatever nonesense you choose to focus your life situation on.

Do what ever you please folks. But as soon as it starts interfering with your life, (whether it be financially, family related, or health reasons) thats the time to stop. Every action has a re-action. It's up to you to open your eyes and realize if that re-action is worth it.

You could list some sources of your information that youre "contributing".

As for thai, whether thc, alcohol or tabacco hurt you or not isnt the problem. Its people like you who cant let the people who do it recreationally be like its causing some interference in your life. Maybe sitting on t4r all day long is something you need to reevaluate. It doesnt affect me at all but i may as well waste my time and energy downplaying your hobby.

...yet physicians are the worst ones in the hospital for washing their hands...

...and years of a daily glass of red wine may have protected someone's heart...

Mortality? Probably the single most effective thing anyone could do is reduce driving miles.

Cherry picking is fun.

Fact is, humans are terrible at understanding and assessing risk, and in some domains professionals can be among the worst.

Since you have this exclusive information why not publish your works and receive international praise? Hahah well I guess you can't because there are no facts behind your opinion, probably just stirring the pot (pun intended) to boost that post count. :nerd:

Doctor. Hospital. Medical and critical care at my hospital. Did i say that THC is horrible and causes cancer? No, not that we know of. But, does that mean that it is safe over the long haul? No. See Tylenol example i gave...i hope that you understood that example.

As for quick hoot thing, did you miss my point or just refuse to? There are many horrible things that happen from "just this once" or "i don't do it a lot, just once in a while" etc..

But, again, like i said above, feel free to do what you want...but there are consequences to almost everything that you do to your body...maybe not obvious now, but down the road.... (And no, i am not a holistic type person.)

And i see that i offended someone with the smartphone discussion! Pull up your panties IanB! Funny.

Oh yeah, physicians are not perfect either. I crap on my colleagues who do stupid things. I am not here to defend anyone. Do i believe in THC? No...except for rare medical reasons. But this whole thing about THC being harmless is about as factual as me telling you that THC causes cancer.

What does wine have to do with this? Oh because alcohol is bad? Let me see...how many here drink JUST one glass of red wine everyday? JB? Do you? If you do, then GREAT! But, my guess is that many folks who drink alcohol do so at a much greater amount. Do you agree? Just because one glass of red wine is good does NOT mean that alcohol (at greater amount) must be even better.

Research or case studies come up with new things everyday...like red wine, Tylenol, hormones, etc.. Unfortunately, the effects of certain things don't show up in a study till years (decades?) later. That's my point.

What exclusive information have i posted other than common sense? No, i don't think that i need to publish that. I hope that everyone has that...but you may correct me.

Folks that are on dialysis now due to their lifetime Tylenol usage is probably not that much different from us....

You mentioned a direct correlation between cannabis use and medical insurance? That's common sense? Sounds like you would need to be referencing some source, otherwise it's just your opinion that no science can verify.

Also In your overwhelming knowledge on the subject it seems like you would note a very fundamental difference in the drugs you mention.. Tylenol is a drug that man created as with many others you list. While cannabis has been here long before man or depending on what you believe god created it.. Either way man didnt manufacture it for profit. Not to mention people have been using for thousands of years. Just food for thought

Your comment about a quick hoot insinuated that marijuanna use in particular lead to all kinds of terrible things, not a "just this once" attitude towards things in general. If that's what you took from my comment, then you took it out of context.

Everything in moderation, as anything in life can be abused. Cheeseburgers, daytime television, smartphone obsessions, whatever your vice happens to be.

Pretty senseless post.. If you need a Prius to get to work or drive down the road, then maybe you need to check on your life situation?

Its just Whatever blows your skirt up, whether it be a beer, a hybrid or a J.

At least he isn't blowing money on gas like the rest of us

At least he isn't blowing money on gas like the rest of us

Haha true that, but he blew a bunch of money on a battery pack made of rare earth metals that burned more fossil fuels being mined from the earth and shipped to Japan and back than he would have burned in his commutes anyway.

Dude, really?! Too much weed has definitely ruined your mind! WTF?! Wow, my point(s) just went right over your head there! Move on because you miss my point(s).

ndecent just suggested earlier that smoking some type of weed is not compatible with driving home on the highway. Whether true or not, i will defer to the "experts" here.

The problem with moderation is that no one knows what that means. A moderate alcohol ingestion for one person may be perfectly fine, while for another may lead to permanent liver damage (cirrhosis). And what is moderate amount to one person may be different to another. George Burns smoked all his life and died late without any lung issue. Another person can smoke the same amount and develop lung cancer at 40 years old. We are all different inside. I can't drink much alcohol because i get red in the face due to lack of enzyme, while another guy can drink a whole keg without any issue.

As for THC, moderation sounds good. But who knows? That is why Tylenol example is important to remember. The folks in the study who developed kidney failure did NOT overdose on Tylenol...they just took it like how everyone took it (within recommended dosing). Or take proton-pump inhibitors that doctors gave out like vitamins within the past 10 years. Now, we are starting to see the bad effects of it.

How much do we understand about our mind/brain? Are you so sure that THC is harmless? I would not bet money on that, but YMMV.

No argument there.

I have a friend who used to love to criticize my owning a V8 SUV because of its carbon footprint. I suggested we compare total carbon footprints. End of discussion.

I guess my main point is that everyone has blind spots and one piece does not a whole make.
