Cannabis use in the mid-teen years is associated with numerous poor outcomes by young adulthood, according to an analysis of data from three longitudinal studies, published in the Lancet Psychiatry.
The analysis included up to 3800 youths in Australia and New Zealand who reported on cannabis use before age 17 and then were followed until ages 27-30. After multivariable adjustment, even using cannabis less than once a month was associated with lower educational attainment, suicide attempts, and use of other illicit drugs, relative to no use.
Outcomes worsened as cannabis use increased: daily use was associated with roughly a 60% reduced likelihood of graduating high school or earning a college degree, as well as nearly an 18-fold increased risk for later cannabis dependence, 8-fold risk for use of other drugs, and 7-fold risk for suicide attempt.

There are always exceptions. I know my schooling suffered when I was getting stoned on a nearly daily basis, back in my Highschool years. I saw the affects, and thankfully decided it wasn't for me.
I can't tell you how grateful I am that I pulled my head out of my ass, while I was still a teenager.
I can think of about ten guys that continued their smoking, and didn't graduate from Highschool. Since then just more than half have committed suicide, and the others, except for one, barely scrape by.

Holy shit. Are you sure they're only smoking pot?! Committing suicide and nearly homeless/jobless?! I mean, I was addicted for almost a decade and saw myself smoking more and more and my finances suffering so I quit. But wow. I'm sorry to hear about your friends' situations.
The effects(in my opinion) are subtle but enough to make you lose motivation and a decline in testosterone levels, among other symptoms. People claim their friends/family or colleagues are super successful while smoking, but the truth is, they'd be better off of it. It's a serious challenge to be high and perform duties at work. I know I suffered when it came to critical thinking and remembering things from day to day.
I WANTED to quit so everytime I'd fall into the trap of smoking, the entire "high" was me beating myself up for doing it. So I was essentially my own buzz kill. And then I just stopped doing it. Got almost all the way through college while smoking too. Another one of my reasons for quitting was that I needed a successful career after college, and a majority of my prospects were "drug free" work zones.
After quitting, I started running to substitute the free time and thoughts of smoking. I now run 5K, 10K and am preparing for a half marathon at the end of this year. I'm grateful I quit, and I'm getting super healthy being off of it as well. Instead of the late night munchies, I'm passed out because of the exercise. Or instead of sitting around smoking, I'm running stairs at a mountain park in my area. It's a tremendous difference made to substitute health for marijuana.

I imagine alcohol and other drugs also likely played a part at some point. But they all started by smoking pot.
They were friends in Highschool, but after Highschool I was busy doing things, while they just wanted to sit around and get high. So we mostly drifted apart.
Nearly thirty years later, I just occasionally hear through the grapevine about one of them.
Just to be clear, not everyone I knew that was a Stoner in Highschool, ended up wasting their life, or killing themselves.
The percentage of people I knew that did go that route, is disturbingly high. Which was my point in replying to Thai's post.

Oh, I definitely understood you. You gave a good alternative to the cons of smoking. And very realistic situations that occur. It just caught me by surprise, but I can easily understand how it could put you there.

Record homeless flooding into Denver...
EBT being used at ATMs outside of weed shops...
People being admitted to hospitals because they flip out on edibles by eating several times the recommended dose... I'm sure someone stuffing massive amounts of pot laced candy down their throat has all the necessary insurance to pay for a hospitalization, ambulance ride, etc.
The pot tourism is just bringing smelly trash into our once clean state... some of whom are drug runners--oh yeah, it's great to see roadblocks to make sure that no "legal" weed is being smuggled out of Colorado.
Yeah, legalization has done wonders in Colorado.
I'm still waiting for that huge surplus of funds they were all promising us, oh wait that's not coming since the money is bleeding off to deal with the secondary issues of the State turning into a drug dealer.
I wish they'd just make all this shit illegal and legalize it somewhere else like OR, WA, or CA so all this garbage would leave this once beautiful state. I don't remember so many vagrants fighting over pocket change outside of the dispensaries in Boulder, CO Springs, and Denver 10 years ago.
I went to downtown Boulder to take the wife out for dinner a few days ago and we were mobbed by angry, dirty, hostile, violent, foul mouthed peddlers trying to score money for weed, booze, and cigarettes. It was about as bad as San Francisco--except there it's illegal to be homeless.

Yeah, thats an unfortunate side effect of being the "first". Hopefully that slows considerably when it opens up elsewhere.
Losers will be losers, no matter where they are. I can drive to South Portland ME, sit outside a restaurant, and watch a whole pack of losers who sit outside the Methadone clinic and fight over the dose that someone just got...

If you're smoking weed before or during work, you have some problems for sure, but I think blaming them on the weed is weksos. Same goes for suicidal thoughts, these people have some work to do on themselves regardless if they're using pot or not.:smokin:
