The "extra power" button???

I've just gotten a '97 4R, V6, auto. There's a button by the emergency brake handle and the manual says to push it for certain situations, but the wording is kind of vague. Does this cut out any overdrive? Is it for towing? Or is it used in conjunction w/ 4WD low range? Do any of you guys ever use it? Thank You

It engages the auxilery turbo booster located under the heat shield. If you listen carefully, you can hear the whine and the tiny BOV.

Ok, just kidding. Really that is for either towing, or going up hills. It doesn't turn off the O/D, but it changes the shift points to a higher RPM. That's about it.

I'm not totaly familiar with the interior on 96-98 models, but are you sure you are talking about the e-brake handle?? The only button I've ever seen on ebrakes is the release button, the one you have to press in order to release the brake.

He said it's BY the ebrake handle, not on it. It's the ECT button. It's right on one of those pop-out tabs. 99+'s moved it up to the dash.
