The Family 4Runner:

Back story: We had a 1989 4Runner from 1996 (before I was born!) until we sold it in 2008 with 490,XXX miles. Here is the thread for that one: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/classic-t4rs/146560-my-dads-1989-4runner.html

Here is the build thread of our 2004 4Runner. V6, SR5, 4WD, Galactic Gray, Purchased in 2008. Currently has 180,XXX miles.

First three things were the removal of the side steps, 32” BFG AT’s, and the OME lift.

Then we were involved in a hit – and – run collision a few months after we bought it.



The wreck caused this to happen! (CBI Bumper) We took the insurance money and we only had to pay around $400 out of pocket.

Next came some Demello Offroad Sliders. We got some of the first ones and were the second or third to find out that they did not fit correctly on 2003 and 2004 models. We got a set of corrected ones a few months later, but do not have any pictures of them.




Go all the way to 2013 with no problems and……

The head gasket blew. It wound up costing us around $3700 and two weeks with no truck.

In November, the first snow of the year, my dad was off- roading for work on a freshly bulldozed road. He said there was a random ditch that he didn’t see and he hit his head on the roof when the front lower part of the bumper hit the other side. Then, a week after, he love taps somebody in traffic. Didn’t really cause any more damage, so it was fine with him. The only damaged part was the lower silver plastic piece. We thought it was going to be an easy swap, but we wound up having to remove the whole bumper!

The frame was bent in pretty bad- good thing the airbags didn’t go off. We scratched off the loose paint and sprayed it black

We are not really building it any more, just keeping it like it is because we really don’t need anything else.

Haha no I wish, I have a blue 4th gen. Stock for now but that'll change soon. How do you like the OME lift? I'm actually thinking about that route myself.

The OME lift is great! Has a nice ride, a good amount of lift, and good flexibility.

Cool, well it's definitely an option for me. I'll keep an eye open for your runner though, I'm pretty sure I've seen it a few times on my way home. I live out past Lakeview by the lake.

A little update: Here lately the brakes have been pretty rough and we decided to change them. One of the calipers on the front was stuck and dragging. The pad on one side was almost completely gone with the wear indicator completely gone. We got a rebuilt caliper and flushed the lines with new brake fluid. We also got the rotors turned to stop the shaking when stopping. Before, the MPG thingy on the dash was saying 16 and now it's saying 21! The brakes are sooo much better.:thumb:
